Do people want to post reviews of the latest films they have seen to help expand each others knowledge of the genre.I was thinking reviews of films not avalible from Amazon would be good and also more obscure titles that people may not of seen.

LONG ISLAND CANNIBAL MASSACRE

Nathan Schiff directs this micro-budget masterpiece which unlike other no-budget films did not have me reaching for the fastforwards button.Sure the title is a bit hokey, the acting very ropey but this film gives and is one to keep and watch again.Infact if you do not buy this film,my dad will come and eat you!Plot wise, the film took me by suprise with a couple of subplots I did not expect. At times the dialogue exceeds the actors abilities to express the suprising depth of some of the writting. But enough of all that stuff, blood flows, heads are caved in,limbs fly all over the place and guts are munched.

Thanks to A.Walker for recommending this to me.Long Island Cannibal Massacre [DVD] [1980] [US Import]

I am glad you enjoyed "Long Island Cannibal Massacre" I found the argument between the monsters son and the black bag hysterical, maybe my sense of humour is a little off what do you think.

 Count Zaroff says:
That was the best scene in the film.I loved it when he wiped the "tears" away.
Will be getting the rest of Schiff's films over the next few months. You have refired my obsession with the genre but it's playing hell with my bank balance.Cheers!

BANDH DARWAZA

Have you ever thought that the Hammer Dracula films were too short, that they could do with the main theme from "Friday the 13th" on the sound track along with just about every type of music known to man,or thunder and lightening should happen at least every other scene. Then this is the film for you.At 2 hours plus Bollywood's Bandh Darwaza is a sight to see and here. The first 17 minutes pack more in than your average no brain hollywood film does in it's full running time.Yes,it rips off all your favorite Hammer moments but it does it with such good natured glee it's a pleasure to behold.I thought I'd be using the fast forward on this but no,I was engrossed from start to finish.Oh yeah,it has a bit of singing and dancing too.

AM I THE ONLY PERSON WATCHING FILMS AT PRESENT WHO WANT TO SHARE THEM WITH OTHERS.The Bollywood Horror Collection, Vol. 1: Bandh Darwaza [DVD] [US Import]

MESSIAH OF EVIL

I can not recommend this film enough. It plays like a hypnopompic fever before your eyes.Any attempt to describe the plot would fail the film as this is about sound, vision and atmosphere. It reminded me of when I first read Lovecraft and is the most Lovecraftian film I have seen not to be based on one of HP's works. Is it arthouse or horror ,who knows, maybe both.If anybody has seen it I would be grateful to hear your views. The Devil's Nightmare/Messiah of Evil [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

I would recommend "Seven Women for Satan" which I saw at the weekend, its about a rich man living in a castle who kills women, there is a lot more to it but I don't want to ruin the plot. Great death sequences though not too gory.

I should be posting more reviews but lately I haven't seen that many truely great movies.

Messiah of Evil & Sisters of Death is that the full title? Thats the only Messiah of Evil title I could find. I've not seen it but a mad Lovecraftian film sound like a winner and someting i'd like to watch.

AlanK47,The "Messiah of Evil" I have also goes under these titles:Dead People;Revenge Of The Screaming Dead;Return Of The Living Dead; The Second Coming and Blood Virgin.I got it in a box set called "the Living Dead" which also contains:the night Evelyn Came Out Of The Grave;House By The Cemetery;Fangs Of The Living Dead;I Eat Your Skin; The Last Man On Earth;King of The Zombies;Night Of The Living Dead and The Thirsty Dead. All films are like watching a knackered VHS tape, but it was only a few quid.

I think "Sisters OF Death" is a different film altogether.

My DVD double bill of "Lady Terminator" and "Dangerous Seductress" arrived today, once I have watched them I may put them here if they are any good athough its just as likely they belong on the Cheap and Ghastly topic, only time will tell.

I would like to be able to say I wasn't completely lazy and post a decent recommendation that you guys are not likely to have seen yet so here goes.

Video Violence 1 and 2 [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Made and set in the mid 80's this tale concerns a small town of people who all have VCR's (I presume at this period in time that would be considered unusual but I was to young to recall) and all rent loads of low budget gore movies. A new person moves into town to take over the video store but finds the locals very strange, even weirder he finds an unlabelled tape in the deposit box that might just be a snuff murder. Are there people being killed, and if so who is doing it, how many are in on it? Gory, offbeat and quite cheesy it will appeal to H.G.Lewis and possibly Schiff fans, the DVD is American but not region coded and comes with the reasonably amusing sequel.

 A. Walker says:
Terror Firmer

The Troma film of the 90's, this movie shows a blind indepenent film director and his enthusiastic crew struggle to make a movie all whilst some deranged killer picks off the cast and crew in ridiculous and unlikely ways. If you enjoy your movies loaded with offbeat humour, buckets of gore and enough offensive material to give Mary Whitehouse a heart attack this is for you. Buy the unrated version as it is 16 minutes longer meaning the R rated version probably loses a lot of the good stuff.

Note if you have not heard of Troma or did not enjoy "The Toxic Avenger" this probably won't appeal to you.

HELL'S GROUND

Looking for something different but not too different?Do you like to see dope smoking teens being slaughtered?Want a cool new horror icon? Then "Hell's Ground"is for you.And oh yeah,it's in Urdu and from Pakistan. The plot follows your basic kids go off the beaten and get killed by country folk.Chuck in a zombie subplot,a great soundtrack and the coolest killer you've ever seen in a burqa, and you have one great film.Well almost.I didn't really see the reason for the zombie stuff as it just detracted from the main plot and at only 1 hour 18 minutes it dragged in places. That said for a first film in a country not known for splatter flicks this is a very good little film.Hell's Ground [2007] [DVD]

MTDS as you've said in other posts that you haven't seen a lot of Asian cinema and that you're a little disappointed that no ones posting reviews. So I thought I'd review the last film I watched.

TGP (Tokyo Gore Police)..there's a clue in the title.

A bunch of killers, known as Engineers, are wandering the streets of Tokyo. The police, now privatized and corrupt, have set up a task force to combat the Engineers.

The task force is led by a young cop Ruka. Its her job to hunt down and kill The Engineers.

The Engineers are genetically modified humans, created by The Key man, who can grow weapons from their wounded body.

Well that's about it for plot. Now to the gore. As already mentioned the Engineers can grow weapons from their body's. This is usually after a limb has been removed. The weapons are anything from chainsaws, guns and in one case a crocodile. That's right a crocodile. A woman (an engineer) bites a guys penis off. The guy then literally cuts her in half with an Uzi. He then tries to make his escape but is chased down by the woman who has now grown the head of a croc where her legs use to be.

Add to this a guy with a shotgun penis and a limbless gimp that walks around on katana blades and you end up with one mad film.

1 out of 10 for acting and story . 10 out of 10 for being completely wrong.

Have to say that I loved every minute of it. Especially the recruitment adds for the police which pays homage to Robocop And Star ship Troopers. If you want to watch something extremely gory (which doesn't rely to much on CGI) give it a go.

Alank47,thanks for the review, which is excellent but I'll be giving the film a miss as it does not sound like my cup of blood.Though I did find the snail woman kinda sexy in a picture I saw in some magazine. This is the second post where I've mentioned finding women as animals attractive, wonder what that says about me.Anyway here's a review.

SCREAM BLOODY MURDER

Things get off to a great start with wonky camera work and a boy killing his dad with a bulldozer. If that was not enough the kid does a Brian Harvey and manages to run himself over with the bulldozer.Cut to now,and the kid is all grown up,sporting a nice hook instead of a hand and fresh out of the local loonybin. Then he kills and kills and kills.Oh yeah he is also a wannabe m*therh*mper and saviour of whores.Crazy stuff. After the crazed first half the film becomes rather grim and downbeat with a kidnap/hostage plot.It however really comes into it's own in the end with a "Maniac" style freakout.

Made in 1973 this is grand exploitation.I saw it on a Scream Theater double feature disc.the other film was "Sisters of Death" which had me falling asleep after 20 minutes. Both films have that worn out VHS look and are full screen.Scream Bloody Murder [DVD]

I didn't think too much of Tokyo Gore Police, it delivered on the gore department without a doubt but felt too much like an homage to Tarantino and Rodriegez (the style and references are obvious enough). That said the TV trailers were hilairious.

I would recommend the "All Night Long" trilogy as they hold interesting if somewhat demented characters, plenty of gore and degredation and the boxset is reasonably cheap (or it was when I bought it 2 years ago), still I can't give a detailed review as the movies are hard to explain and I don't remember all the details.

If that also doesn't appeal to you there's always the "Hanzo the Razor" trilogy which I remember recommending before at some point, 70's sexploitation mixed with Shogun Assassin style samurai action, whats not to like.

Posted on 8 Feb 2009 14:44 GMT
 AlanK47 says:
Yeah TGP is pretty much along the lines of Planet Terror. I watched it for free and laughed all the way through it. So cant complain.
Will check out Hanzo the Razor as i've not seen it. Tend to lean more towards films like Azumi or Save The Green Planet when i'm up for some Asian cinema.
Asian cinema is coming up with a few original ideas. Hollywood takes note of this and......we i was going to bang on about remakes but we already know about that.
MTDS you may want to check out some Asian horror. They seem to have a fascination with the women as animals thing.

Hitch-Hike

Okay I know most of the folk who would watch this one probably already have but I only found it a few months ago so maybe not. The story revolves round Franco Nero who plays a drunk jerk who is a horrible husband, him and his wife are driving across America (these scenes were filmed in Italy but you wouldn't really know if I hadn't told you) when they pick up a hitch-hiker, David Hess. One person you should always avoid is Hess but obviously having not seen Last House they wouldn't know that, it turns out Hess has pulled off a huge robbery and got away with the money but by the time our hero (sort of) realises this Hess has them at gunpoint and is making strong advances at the wife, thus begins a struggle for Nero to regain control of the situation. In terms of violence and obscurity this film offers very little but it never has a dull moment and has really interesting characters and situations, an absolute masterpiece.

Thanks for pointing out "Bad Biology" M. Hewitt I fear I may have missed it had you not, for those interested it is getting a UK DVD release on the 2nd of May. Now to my latest review.

Visitor Q

A japanese film from cult director Takashi Miike, the film concerns one of the most dysfunctional families ever and how the person known as "the visitor" affects thier lifes. The father is a news reporter, he is also a failure in just about every aspect, the son is being badly bullied and takes his anger out on the mother who is quite unhappy herself and the daughter has moved out to become a prostitute. I can't tell too much about the story without ruining it but I promise the movie is one you won't soon forget, some of you will like its obscure style while others will find it boring or confusing, it passed uncut in the UK and was going cheap a few years back but I don't know if thats still the case, its subtitled but I doubt anyone who would enjoy this film would be put off by that. All in all an enjoyable film for those who want something really different, AlanK47 I think you would like this one.

GUTTERBALLS
An eighties costume drama slasher film anyone? Then "Gutterballs" is for you. This film is a heady mix of outright nasty, dumbness and the odd bit of hardcore porn thrown in for good measure.Sleazy as a crack whore who'll do anything to score, the film allows you to revel in boobs, blood and death by 69.Sure to offend some, this film is well worth checking out if you like your horror on the scummy side and you like to get down and dirty once in awhile.Gutterballs [DVD] [2008] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Thanks A Walker. Havent seen Visitor Q and theres been some mention of it in other posts. Will def give it a watch. Also may have to check out Gutterballs as it sounds so wrong.

I've just watched Slumdog Millionaire (Its not a horror. But you prob already knew that). Story revolves around a guy that gets to go on the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (yeah i know sounds like a crap idea for a film).
Hes accused of cheating and arrested. The main part of the story is about him telling the cops how he knows the anwsers. It then jumps back to him as a kid in the slums of india. Each anwser he gave is told through the events of his childhood.
Think City Of God but set in India. It wont be to everyones taste but if you enjoyd City Of God give it ago.
