Hi

I am an avid reader but am currently stuck. i cant find anything i want to read. Even re-reading some of my most enjoyed booksis not helping and am starting to get frustrated.

I am a big fan of the twilight books, have read a lot of vampire books, also Philip Pullmans Dark Trilogy, Lord of the Rings, Naughts and Crosses that type of thing. Have also read a lot of the Torchwood and Dr Who books

I also enjoy romance books and classics such as Jane Eyre and Emma.

Can anyone recomend me something to pull me out of my block ?????

Have you tried Ash by Mary Gentle or The Earthsea books by Ursula Le Guin.

I'm not really a great fantasy type reader, but as you like Charlotte Bronte and Jane Austen what about Austen's Sense and Sensibility?

Try David Eddings - Sparhawk is a fab hero who will keep you reading right to the end of the Elenium and the Tamuli - 6 books altogether and you can pick them up for next to nothing!!

Hi, try Kristin Cashore, Robin McKinley (recently read Sunshine...very good), Ali Shaw's The Girl with Glass Feet. For some good easy reads try Milly Johnson or Jenny Colgan. Do you like historicals? Michelle Moran's books are marvellous...set in Egypt. Finally, Karen Maitland's A Company of Liars was a surprise for me...wasn't sure I'd like it but loved it. x

The Otherland Series by Tad Williams, very different from anything you will read. These books actually caused me to e-mail the author, something I had never done before (or since) and I read about 3 books a week! Not sure if you could say these fall into sci-fi or fantasy but they sure get you hooked.

How about combining Jane Austen and fantasy with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Sense and Sensibility and Seamonsters.

 Ms. J. E. Davis says:
You sound like you have very broad tastes. I have just finished reading Small Wars by Sadie Jones and thoroughly enjoyed it -pulled me out of my own reading slump. I also greatly enjoyed The Conjourer's Bird by Martin Davies - with two viewpoints it combines classic and contemporary to tremendous effect. It you don't object to a little self-promotion, I would also like to suggest my own book, Half-truths and White Lies which was the winner of the Daily Mail First Novel Award 2008 and was described by Joanne Harris as 'a story of secrets, lies, grief and, ultimately, redemption, charmingly handled by this very promising new writer.' For more info please see reviews on Amazon or go to www.jane-davis.co.uk.

Definitely agree with The Conjuror's Bird. I finished reading it yesterday and loved it. History, mystery and romance all mixed together.

As far as classics are concerned have you tried Willa Cather? Pretty much anything - she writes so beautifully, the characters are well drawn and there's a strong narrative thread. Ladyloafer

"The Woman in Black" by Susan Hill is a very quick read (read it in an afternoon) but it sent shivers down my spine!! Great gothic horror.

Can I recommend 'Blood on their Petticoats' by Geraldine Humphries. It's historical fiction and the opening tone is very much in the Victorian style. Check it out, it's different and very accurate even though it's not a biography.

Daphne du Maurier wrote some great gothic romances: Rebecca (Virago modern classics), My Cousin Rachel (Virago Modern Classics), Frenchman's Creek (Virago Modern Classics), Jamaica Inn
