I am an avid reader but am currently stuck. i cant find anything i want to read. Even re-reading some of my most enjoyed booksis not helping and am starting to get frustrated.
I am a big fan of the twilight books, have read a lot of vampire books, also Philip Pullmans Dark Trilogy, Lord of the Rings, Naughts and Crosses that type of thing. Have also read a lot of the Torchwood and Dr Who books
I also enjoy romance books and classics such as Jane Eyre and Emma.
Can anyone recomend me something to pull me out of my block ?????
Try David Eddings - Sparhawk is a fab hero who will keep you reading right to the end of the Elenium and the Tamuli - 6 books altogether and you can pick them up for next to nothing!!
Hi, try Kristin Cashore, Robin McKinley (recently read Sunshine...very good), Ali Shaw's The Girl with Glass Feet. For some good easy reads try Milly Johnson or Jenny Colgan. Do you like historicals? Michelle Moran's books are marvellous...set in Egypt. Finally, Karen Maitland's A Company of Liars was a surprise for me...wasn't sure I'd like it but loved it. x
The Otherland Series by Tad Williams, very different from anything you will read. These books actually caused me to e-mail the author, something I had never done before (or since) and I read about 3 books a week! Not sure if you could say these fall into sci-fi or fantasy but they sure get you hooked.
You sound like you have very broad tastes. I have just finished reading Small Wars by Sadie Jones and thoroughly enjoyed it -pulled me out of my own reading slump. I also greatly enjoyed The Conjourer's Bird by Martin Davies - with two viewpoints it combines classic and contemporary to tremendous effect. It you don't object to a little self-promotion, I would also like to suggest my own book, Half-truths and White Lies which was the winner of the Daily Mail First Novel Award 2008 and was described by Joanne Harris as 'a story of secrets, lies, grief and, ultimately, redemption, charmingly handled by this very promising new writer.' For more info please see reviews on Amazon or go to www.jane-davis.co.uk.
As far as classics are concerned have you tried Willa Cather? Pretty much anything - she writes so beautifully, the characters are well drawn and there's a strong narrative thread. Ladyloafer
Can I recommend 'Blood on their Petticoats' by Geraldine Humphries. It's historical fiction and the opening tone is very much in the Victorian style. Check it out, it's different and very accurate even though it's not a biography.
'Phillipa Gregory's 'THE LITTLE HOUSE' (Non historical) ABOUT AN OVER BEARING MOTHER IN LAW! and is brilliant! Another fav of mine is Barbara. Erskine's 'HOUSE OF ECHOES' has a bit of everything, not one to read alone at night ... WOW! I loved it .. Next I'm reading Erskines 'Hiding from the Light' heard that's good too ....... x
Ive just read Rachel Vincent's - Shifters series I love it moving onto Kelley Armstong (women of the other world series - begins with bitten) now and really enjoying those too
Hmm, try Magicians by Grossman for a weird take on Harry Potter/Narnia. For fantasy fun with a slight hint of romance try the Poison Study trilogy by Schneider cheers Nick
