You might like The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon set in Barcelona, or you might also like The secret life of bees by Sue Monk Kidd - it was recently made into a movie but the book is really worth a read.

Blatant self-promotion here, but try my new novel The Sheherd Lord (available on Amazon) if you want a good, gritty adventure story. George Peter Algar

How about The Sleepwalker's Introduction to Flight by Sion Scott Wilson, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire - Suzanne Collins - The Night Watch trilogy - Sergei Lukyanenko (different twist on vampires etc), Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Sense and Sensibility and Seamonsters, Numbers - Rachel Ward, a girl keeps 'seeing' groups of numbers in her head and discovers they correspond to the day that people will die, gift or curse? interesting novel written for young adults, the second in the series is due out next year.

Strongly recommend the 'Bartimaeus Trilogy' by Jonathan Stroud - my teenage daughter loved them (and so did I)

I would recommend the Twilight saga, and then City of Beasts, The Kingdom of the Golden Dragon and Forest of Pygmies by Isabel Allende. You should also read anything you can by Neil Gaiman - start with Stardust and The Graveyard Book.

Magicians by Grossman - it's very good indeed and an ideal step on from the HP type books. Maybe Synder's Poison Study series too......

You might enjoy the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. I love all three but the first one, Northern Lights, is one of my favourite books of all time. Also Howl's Moving Castle and other books by Diana Wynne Jones are fantastic too. Hope you find something you like :o)

Hi Emma,
The best way to find books is to look at 'Listmanias' which include books that you have read and liked. Then go for books that get a mention on several of those lists. There is a high likelihood that you'll enjoy those whereas books that only make a list here or there are more likely to be 'fringe' tastes. Here is a link to my Listmania for fantasy. You'll probably enjoy most of them though it depends on what you are looking for. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/richpub/listma Entertaining and not too complicated: 3, 5, 9, 10, 15, 17, 19, 21, Epic, often with a lot of different characters: 2, 3, 7, 14, 15 More demanding reads: 1, 11, 20, Female main character: 4, 9, 13, 18, 22, 24 Paranormal or maybe a little on the 'dark' side: 4, 7, 8, 9 Sword and Dagger: 12, 25 Romance: 24 Humour: 6 I'd class as young adult: 5, 16, 17, 19, 22, 23, Books I'd leave for later if I was you: 7, 12, 25 I would second the Philip Pullman books that Auraya has recommended to get you going. Pullmann has also written another series that you might like which is called 'The Sally Lockhart quartet' . It starts with a book called 'Ruby in the Smoke' and was adopted for TV with Billy Piper playing the female lead. As you seem to enjoy fantasy fiction check out the fantasy forum where you'll find a lot of interesting threads that might give you some more ideas. Let us know what you did get in the end and what you think of it.

Why not take some of these ideas with you into an actual book shop and read the first page of some of them and see which appeals to you!! That often works when it is hard to make a choice!!

id recommend the Age of the Five trilogy by Trudi Canavan, which also wrote The Magicians Guild (as you'll know). To me they were a far superior series to those of the The Black Magician Trilogy so i believe you will definately like :)
id also give the pellinor series by alison croggon a try, also books by catherine webb! they are brilliant books. if you havent given any garth nix books a try by now i would right now! and graceling/fire try them too well thats all i think of from the top of my head at this moment! but do hope my recommendations help!
