I read a book I think published in the 80's about an apartment with a painting in it and the man in the painting moves closer to, I think a door. It's a horror. Any ideas?

My first thought was a Stephen King short story. But none of them (Sun Dog / The Road Virus Heads North) seem to fit the bill.
I do remember the first segment of the pilot for Night Gallery (The Cemetery) had the setup you are describing. This is a DVD however. Maybe there was a tie-in book released later? Bit of a long shot I know...

Ha my first thought was also Stephen King! But my initial thought was 'Rose Madder'! However, I think that's wrong.

Was it aimed at teenagers like the Point Horror books I liked to read?

Patricia says:
Maybe "Lilith" by George MacDonald, or could it be "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde? Doubt this though.
Neither is particularly for younger people. An intriguing question!
