 Carradale says:
At the time Connolly's An Audience with.... was a classic. Never seen so many people at once crying with laughter

Mr Izzard can be mind bogglingly hilarious when on form but prolonged exposure has perhaps lessened the running gag technique.

Bill Bailey on top form was very hard to beat...

 Carradale says:
Talking of running gags, what is happening with this multiple thread business?

Richard Pryor has to be in the running. Amazing ability to tell personal truths in a way that was shocking, sad and incredibly funny.

 Ian Murray says:
Best in the business discussions have to mention Daniel Kitson, Rhod Gilbert, Ross Noble, Frank Skinner and Lee Evans for me.

Absolute hands down, no question about it - Michael McIntyre. I watched him as his new DVD was being filmed, and there was NO way that performance could be beaten!!! I'm also a fan of Dara O'Brien and I'm keeping my eye out for Rhod Gilbert's come-uppance. So far, they are the only comedians who have made me cry with laughter.

 James Farrell says:
Two greats seem to have been overlooked: Robin WIlliams and Eddie Murphy. They only did a few concerts, but they were certainly explosive. And Chris Rock - I've never seen any other stand-up preach the truth about society with his thought-provoking insights, yet at the same time bring down the house with his bitingly cynical, but hilarious judgments.

 H. C. Jerrome says:
Mr Scrimshaw, I'm very certain that thousands more than 'one' person laughs at Michael McIntyre's jokes ;) his latest tour was sold out in a day, and 750,000 copies of last years DVD have been sold, not to mention the number of people who watch it online or just on TV. I know it's not for everyone, but for me, when comedians get TOO offensive, crude, outrageous - they just stop being funny. Frankie Boyle and Jo Brand are a couple of examples where they've crossed that invisible line that has made me never want to watch them in stand up again.

 Stulito says:
Jerry Sadowitz - not family friendly but brilliantly confrontational.
Bill Hicks - for squejeeing(?) some third eyes
Eddie Izzard - 'Glorious'... is nearly perfect

 D. Clark says:
What about Jackie Mason? He was genius- But if we're looking at living stand-ups, it has to be Russell Brand for me.

 Starry Heavens says:
Dara O' Brien, Bill Bailey, Ross Noble, the intensely funny Sarah Silverman... the list goes on.

Stewart Lee is the most talented, unique stand up alive. Fact.

Bill Hicks - Sadly missed.
Eddie Izzard - Surreal Genius.
Richard Pryor - One of the few who could balance vicious material with a great warmth toward the audience.
Jerry Sadowitz - All credit to Frankie Boyle but you've got some work to do to surpass the utter Misanthropic Master, and Card Tricks too !!!
Chris Rock - The inheritor of Richard Pryor's mantle

 M. Hamilton says:
Lee Mack just plain funny.
I have no excuse but I ended up at a Keith Harris gig a few years ago -yes with the bird- I tried to hold myself aloof but I have to admit he got me - he was hilarious. There I've never admitted that before. never will again
