I remember about a year ago Marty Roth, of Bent Wind, and I were chatting online when he told me the "definitive" edition of "Sussex" was going to be reissued by a label from Greece and that it was gonna be nice. Well, its one year, I finally have the reissue of "Sussex" and Marty was understating reality. What arrived in the post a few days ago was a sturdy cardboard box housing the 12" 180 gram vinyl reissue of Bent Wind's absolute classic Canadian psych gem "Sussex." The reissue, on Anazatisi Records, has a bonus track found added to the end of both sides of the LP. These 2 tracks are the a- and b-sides of the lone single released in connection with the album, "Castles Made Of Man" b/w "Sacred Cows." Nice touch. Then comes the 7" EP of containing the "Lost Ryerson Tapes," but only the 4 tracks recorded in March, 1970, by a student at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto, while the band was practicing. Super nice touch. Then there's the 8 page insert which contains a band "history and commentary" by Roth, and lyrics to all the tracks on "Sussex." Super Cool move. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the 4 page folding wrapper that covers the 7" EP which opens to reveal the lyrics to the songs on the EP and other recording information regarding the 7" piece. Wow! The presentation is absolutely amazing. Oh yeah again, I forgot to mention the groovy poster that also comes in the package. Yet another wonderful touch. I couldn't ask for more, the "Sussex" remastered to sound better than ever, the true "Lost Ryerson Tapes" excluding the 1991 duet recording of "Elanore Rigby" done by Roth and Gerry Gibas, but definitely not part of the repertoire of the original Bent Wind. And you get both sides of the band's sole 45.Read more ›
