Will this work with a standard ADSL2+ wired router connected via ethernet?

Yes it has ethernet input.

As you know this is only a router. You will need a modem to connect to the internet. I use a TP link TP-8817. I am extremely happy with this router, it's interface and WIFI coverage, One of if not the best on the market. But, to answer your question, yes standard ASDL2+ should work fine.

I have it connected to a BT router via ethernet, and it works fine
