I ordered 2 sets of these - one for myself and one for my sister, both keen kintters in the past but a bit out of practise!. Very good quality and perfect to knit with. They are the shorter size (just under 10 inches) which are ideal for practicising technique (along with a helpful book I bought) and knitting smaller items. Feel lovely in the hands with nice sharp but smooth points that don't split through the wool thread as you are knitting. They are the darker, carbonized type, which are superior to the lighter coloured ones available as they are a lot stronger. Each set of needles were individually wrapped and the whole parcel arrived well packaged and undamaged. Arrived from abroad (Hong Kong) quicker than the estimated delivery date. Can't fault. Happy knitting!

Shame they are a bit rough and seem to drag the wool. The sizes are marked on the sides of the needles and are virtually unreadable, even with a magnifying glass. They would be better marked on the ends.

As for the packaging, I think they would have been better protected if they had been in a tube rather than a jiffy bag. They did arrive undamaged, but I am amazed they had not perforated the bag or been broken. Using a tube would give better protection and also give the purchaser something to keep the needles in.

All in all not a bad product at a decent price, but invest in some ultra fine sandpaper for a better knitting experience.

TOP 1000 REVIEWERon 6 January 2014
I purchased these knitting needles for myself. I have been knitting for around 20 years off and on and recently have got back into the swing of things, previously I used my grandmothers knitting needles, but felt I should invest in more than the couple she has lent to me. The set did take several weeks to come, but I wasn't in an immediate hurry, so first and foremost, consider that these will take some time to get to you as they come from hong kong. They came well wrapped, each individual needle was individually wrapped in a plastic sheet wrapper. They are labeled by size (in mm not in letter form) the label is not immediately obvious, but is there. The needles all felt smooth and well made to me, the tips did not seem like they would begin to fray easy and leave splinters or catch yarn. The only thing that I do not like is mainly the ball ends, and this I think is due to their length. I am used to much longer needles and I keep bumping my arms and catching the ends on my clothes, yarn etc. I imagine I will get used to it, but I have been using them for a project for about 2 weeks and it is irritating me at the moment, but not so much that I am writing them off as a bad purchase. They have held up well through a lot of knitting over the past few weeks and I have used a variety of sizes, even the very small (but be careful with the smallest sizes, I reckon they'd snap pretty easy if you were new to it.

I would recommend to a beginner, but I'd recommend using one of the larger sizes when learning how to use it as when you're learning I feel the best thing is to be able to see the progress you're making and see how certain knit styles look almost blown up a larger size. Larger needles means there will be larger gaps in your work, but when initially starting out I think this is good as it helps you get your rhythm and when you're working and getting to grips with the basics (ie casting on, stitch knitting, purl knitting, casting off etc) There are plenty of youtube videos out there that will show you how to do the different knits and how to cast on and off etc. If you're working from a pattern and they use terms such as "m1L" or "k2tog tbl" search the phrase in youtube and put knitting behind it and you will find the various stitches that increase or decrease the width of your project. You can get some fairly reasonably priced yarn at wilkos or tesco etc if you're just looking to see if its for you. Its usually less than 1.50 for a ball. For chunkier yarns or a variety of colors etc, hobbycraft stores are good, but my personal favourite is wool4less - I do a lot of chunky style knits and they have a great variety and its priced good as well. Abakhan are also good, but more expensive, but they have a variety of yarn that I haven't seen elsewhere.

Smooth, easy to use and lighter than metal needles, so much better for the serious knitter, and for teaching young hands without so much fatigue. These are an excellent product, but the tiny stamps with the sizes are impossible to read, even with a magnifying glass! You'll need a fine felt tip pen on the head of the pins, or a small wrap round label, to make the sizes clear, once you've checked them in a gauge.

This is an excellent buy! The set consists of 36 single pointed needles made from carbonized bamboo, including two pairs of needles for all 18 needle sizes in the range of 2mm-10mm. Each pair of knitting needles is also individually wrapped in a plastic package. They have a very smooth surface with no raised bumps or splinters and are very lightweight, as they are bamboo, your hands do not get too hot or clammy if you are using them for a long knitting session. I will say though that the some of the sizes on the needles are printed very small so you may need to label them or go over it with a sharpie or something. All in all though, I am very pleased with this product and am glad I made the purchase! Delivery can take a little longer though as they are coming from Hong Kong. Great value for money though and well worth the wait.
