Maybe we were just unlucky with this bottle?
on 27 December 2013
For someone's 70th birthday, we splashed out on this - hopefully - failsafe champagne, Dom P obviously ranks up there with the highest BUT what a disappointment! The colour and bubbles were delightful, like liquid citrines in a glass, a pale straw colour, good bouquet, then.....blindfolded, you'd have sworn it was a £30.00 bottle of Mumm Cordon Rouge (or suchlike) from a supermarket! (No lies, I've had more characterful, complex Cava!) Probably £100-odd is the 'cheaper' end of the scale at this level, we can't afford £00's, but even so. The box and bottle were very classy, the cork came out easily with a lovely pop, then - downhill all the way. Were we just unlucky or, at this 'low end' price, does the Dom P emperor really have no clothes? :-(
