I bought this through Duty Free and very worthwhile too.
Smokier than other JW offerings, but with a rich almost sweet backnote. Well worth a try, and one of my favourite JW's.

There are 'smoked' flavours and then there are burnt and this falls closely towards the latter. Yes, some people will, and clearly do love it, but for the rest of us you need to be very careful if the smell of burnt wood is not your thing, as the taste will certainly miss you. This seems to have picked a good deal of the 'burnt oak casks' it has been stored in, but for my palate just not for the better.

The worst part? There is a REALLY good whiskey in there, just one that is lost in that smell of burnt wood and then the first 'hit' of the same when you taste. What a shame.

It does taste like something left over from a house fire. Slowly getting through it, but after a few glasses it has gone to the back of the cupboard and I might try to use it more as a mixer.

I am far from being a whisky connoisseur and in fact, apart from diluting it with a piece of ice, I prefer to leave it in as much of its unadulterated state as I possibly can; primarily to enjoy the flavour but that flavour needs to be intense for me rather than heavily diluted. My favourite I'm afraid comes from Ireland, but this nice whisky pushes it close. I note all of the comments regarding the smokiness etc, but for me, it is put simply a very nice, smooth and very palatable drink at the end of a day, particularly nice to accompany a cup of strong black coffee after dinner - many may think that this would detract from the flavour, but for me, they compliment one another well and therefore I can only recommend both the whisky and the habit. The crisp and bitter coffee just seems to prepare my palate for the smoothness of the whisky, although if you force me, I will take the whisky without the coffee at a pinch.

I purchase mine via Amazon and enjoy a regular supply at a competitive price. Certainly one to keep in the cupboard for very good friends, or perhaps not; one for "sorry I have the grouse, or you might like a drop of Bells that I got for £10 from Sainsbury, let's see what you think........."

I purchased this whiskey for someone else. But as with the best laid plans.
My friend was unable to sample this drink.

And since i am not a huge fan of whiskey,I was undecided as to what i should do with it. (I prefer Southern Comfort).
Anyway I decided to have a sample.
Well I was very pleasantly surprised.

This tasted nothing like the harsh tasting Johnnie Walker that I have drank in the past.
This drink still as a bite, but it is less harsh and a lot smoother.
I first had a glass of this whiskey without any mixer. And the rest of the whiskey I added a splash of coke.

The rest of this whiskey I drank over a period of ten evenings. And I found it to be a very warming relaxing drink.
I guess connoisseurs of this drink will say That I ruined it with a splash of coke,But each to their own.

Would I purchase this whiskey again? Well to be honest yes I would.More so if I fancied a change from my usual tipple.

Love Johnnie Walker, I'm never without a bottle. The double black is a lovely build on the original black label, I think I still prefer the normal black label but this is a nice change. Very smokey and had a nice nose.

This was a 90th birthday present for my father. He loves Jonnie Walker Black Label and this Double Black edition was as smooth as silk he informs me!

This is a great whisky, one of Johnnie Walker's finest! If you like the smokey Islay taste, then look no further. For the money, nothing competes with this one.

This is a nice deep amber smokey whiskey. I am not normally a blend drinker, preferring the Islay single malts. This does well, with a good full palate of burnt oak on top of salt laden spirit in the Islay tradition, but it falls short of those great malts. The explosion on the palate is a little muted and the linger a little shorter than you would hope for. It won't disappoint in robustness of flavour and has some true complexities in there, but it doesn't quite earn that 5th star in giving the total package and depth.

I purchased this Double Black Label to drink over Christmas, and needless to say it was a wise buy that I highly recommend to others. The bottle is well packaged and presented, arrived on time - as for the flavour, well I just can't praise it enough! It is such a smooth and smoky blend, subtle but flavoursome. I will certainly be buying this product again!
