We switched to the Avent brand after having no success with Mothercare's own-brand nipple shields. These protectors do the job and have helped our baby to latch on to the breast very well. We would have given them a five-star rating if they had been a little more 'clingy' (try a dab of Vaseline on either side to help them stick to the skin) and if they had come in a case that could be sterilised.

These protectors really saved me a whole world of pain. I continued to use them through breastfeeding both of my children. They are light and discreet allowing for lots of skin to skin contact.
A must through those difficult establishing days.

These nipple shields are brilliant and saved us from stopping breast feeding. Why oh why do the mid wives not tell you about these products and let people carry on in agony. If breast feeding hurts then give them a go as they are a very small price for the instant relief that they provide.

My little angel bop wouldn't breast feed bless him so I got these and although I looked like I had huge nipples he seemed to like them and latched on. Only problem is they don't stick on your boobs very well so sometimes the milk leaks and runs down your tummy which isn't the best feeling in the world. Definately gets them breast feeding though.

Breast feeding can, sometimes, be a painful business. These help protect the nipple, especially if they become cracked or sore; allowing breast feeding to continue more comfortably. The only downside with these if that they do not attach easily, but a dab of Vaseline should help them stay put. These can be sterilised, but it is just a shame that the case cannot. These are a good buy if you are struggling and can also make transition to a bottle later easier.

Was advised to try these by my midwife when my wee one was three days old as as my baby girl was a 'lazy eater'. These seemed to stimulate her to eat more and opened her mouth further for a better feeding position. Now at 7 weeks still use them ocasionally when she's a bit sleepy and not feeding properly but she can also feed without. Brilliant product as otherwise I was ready to give up on breastfeeding due to worries she wasn't getting enough milk. Also helped to maintain feeding when I was feeling a little raw once she got the hang of feeding and got very enthusiastic about it!

These are a great device. They can really help to cut down on pain during breastfeeding and definitely worth a try. That and liberal applications of lanolin. The only problem is that different manufacturers seem to vary in fit and size. What fits one person may not fit another. The ones I received are labelled as '2, standard, 21 mm.' The 21 mm measurement equates to the diameter of the protector, minus the surrounding shield. I can't see that Phillips do any different sizes other than standard. So, if these don't fit, you may have to go with a different make. (Aunty Barbar.)

The shields come in a handy box and are made from soft silicone. The tiny instruction booklet tells you to sterilise before use. It's a shame the carry case was not produced to sterilise like some dummy cases as that would have made life easier.

The silicone bends to the shape of the breast but does not grip. Once baby gets the hang of the latch, the shields help to significantly reduce pain to help cracked and bleeding nipples heal in the early days of feeding.

A must have for any new breast feeding mum, well made and good value for the ease.

First of all, it's the wife that's used these. Not me. Honest. Anyway she seems to like them, she said that it definitely helps to protect her sensitive bits for the hungry baby, they are soft enough that they don't seem to get in the way of the important stuff!

The only down side (she says) is that they do feel a little odd on, but I guess the more you use them, the more you will get used to the idea and she said it's better to feel a bit odd than in pain! Cheap enough to be "worth a go" especially if you are struggling ...
