A game for teh n00bs
Okay, Modern Warfare 2. This game had possibly the WORST campaign I have ever played. It made little or no sence and was focused more on action packed rubbish than a decent story. Modern Warfare 2 could learn a lot from games like Halo 3/Halo 3: ODST which both have PERFECT campaigns. Also Spec Ops is pathetic, i'd much rather look at a cabbage for an hour than play Spec...
The original Call of Duty4: Modern Warfare was arguably the best first person shooter on the Xbox360 and possibly the best shooter ever made. The pressure was certainly on developers Infinity Ward - how to top one of the most popular games on the current generation of consoles. What they did was serve up more of the same, only looking better than ever and introducing more depth, including a co-operative mode.
It's CoD4 as you know and love: the single player campaign is great, clocking in at about five or six hours and delivering great set-pieces that range from the caves of Afghanistan to suburban North America, from oil rigs and snow bases to the Whitehouse itself and referencing along the way some action films such as the snow mobile chase of Die Hard 2 and the shower shoot-out of The Rock. The 'story', such as it is, is told with the now-familiar device of the dual parallel narrative, British and American. The graphics are outstanding, the motion capture perfect, the levels varied, the sound and voice acting absolutely spot-on.
However, as is the case with CoD, you come for the single player campaign but you stay for the multiplayer. Safe to say, the multiplayer is even better on this than CoD4, which was almost perfection. There are more weapons, more customisation, more perks, more depth in levelling up, bigger maps, more detail - yes, more is more here and it's outstanding. The multiplayer detail is as good as the original CoD4 single player game.
The biggest new addition would have to be Special Operations mode. That's a co-operative game (online or system link/split screen) where yourself and another player have to complete a certain objective, such as holding out in a siege scenario or clearing out a location. This feature is perfectly well balanced and a great new aspect to the Call of Duty franchise.
At it's heart, Modern Warfare2 is still a Call of Duty game and it's unlikely to win any converts from the nay-sayers, who decry it as an on-rails, whack-a-mole, run and gun game. It is all these things but that's not a bad thing in itself and when compared to the mediocre, half-finished rubbish that was Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, Infinity Ward have established with Modern Warfare2 the bench mark for all future first person shooters. This game is almost perfection.
The Hardened Edition comes with a code to download the complete original version of Call of Duty in high definition (also by Infinity Ward), featuring almost two dozen levels, with online multiplayer functionality. This is a great game when you fancy some retro warfare. All told, an excellent package.

This game is soo cutting edge, so amazing that I spent most of it with my jaw open down to my feet and drooling enough to fill a small lake.
This game has some of the best plot follow-ons to Modern Warfare, and the multiplayer really IS all it's made out to be
just buy it and you will never look back. although I wouldn't advise it for small thirteen year old liverpudlians because I don't need more of them yelling in my ear you little buggers!
The artwork book isn't actually that big at all but what's inside is really really cool. I haven't downloaded my Call of Duty 1 token yet but that's because I'm trying to save memory.

This game is fantatsic if you like this sort of thing. Which I do. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it and I will be replaying all the modes for some time to come. See above for the good stuff, most of it is true. But I do have some gripes
This game feels a little cheaply made. After playing through the campaign twice and spent considerable time on the multiplayer, I'm struggling to see any improvement over the original. If anything, I preffered the original as it felt a little more grounded in reality, it was a refreshing change from Halo and it brought FPS multiplayer to the console in a big, big way. Loved it. But that game had its problems, which this seems to have also inherited.
Infinity Ward said this game is meant to be authentic rather than realistic, which is a fair description of this title. I'm fairly certain you don't get grenade indicators in real life, but for the incredibly short amount of time the single player campaign lasts, it is very exciting, tense and well realised. But I have played the first one a lot, and this one doesn't make me feel the same way. The tanker mission of the first one was incredible. Even the car journey you take as Al-Fulani was original and well done. I felt like giving IW a round of applause just for the first 4 levels. This game dumps you straight into a middle eastern warzone this time, which isn't as cool as the tanker. The game does literally feel like tacked-on missions from the last one, so in a way, by combining the first one with this one you get a nice long campaign.
But getting back to the cheapness. I expected more from the graphics, especially since I have played Uncharted 2 and Gears of War 2 recently. By today's standards, the graphics are truly unremarkable, which makes me wonder how many assets have been borrowed from the first game. The textures don't look great close up and the trees seem to change shape quite noticeably depending on the distance you are from them. Nitpicking? Perhaps, but these things can really take you out of the moment. This will be the third game to use this engine and it's looking a little dated now, almost to the point of overuse like the Source engine. It just doesn't give me that new car smell and, for £60, it should.
Gameplay-wise you can't fault it. Multiplayer is still as manic and addictive as ever, special ops is a great mode and really tests you. If anything, this game feels like a multiplayer with a story tacked on. I love all the perks you get, but I just wish it had a Killzone 2-esque way of setting up and hosting custom games. I've kinda taken it for granted I guess, but at least this way it keeps all the maps in circulation.
We need to grumble more about our games, get less caught up in hype and ask more from our games developers/publishers. I agree there needs to be some recycling done with game engines, but not enough has changed or improved to warrant the cost or the hype of MW2. Halo 3 ODST seems a fairer deal by comparison. I love single player games, they are a great bit of escapism, but I was left feeling a bit empty after this. Not because it's not as good as the last game's campaign, but because not enough has changed or improved for all the hype it's received. I will be playing it for quite some time, but there were no OMG moments like there were in Gears 2 compared to Gears 1 (Intestinal Fortitude stood out), or like Uncharted 2 compared to Uncharted 1 (the entire game). Just more of the same.
4 stars.

I am not a Huge COD fan, so don't get me wrong.
I am a guy that loves action + a good storyline + FPS.
Cod 4, was amazing, and Cod 6, had a lot to live up to, to try and compete with such a high level.
I can tell you, from playing The Special ops (side missions) and the whole campaign on Regular, that this game is very entertaining to say the least. A word of warning. After i had finished Cod 4 on Veteran, i thought i could take anything on. How wrong i was. They have slightly upped the difficulty on this one, making the enemy cleverer, even on Regular.
The story line is the usual jargon, however i didn't find it as interesting as Cod 4. I do have to say, that the thought behind some of the scenes and the storyline in itself is absolutely superb, however it feels like it was a bit of a hit and miss.
Special ops is great, especially if you have a friend over and want to muck around for just 30 minutes, be it online or split-screen. Multiplayer looks stunning, although i haven't played it much.
The overall gameplay time, with all the cinematic,s and gathering the intel pieces that i found out was only worth 20 G, lasted around 9 Hours. However the special ops will set you back another 5+ hours on Veteran, and The campaign might set you back another 10-20hours on Veteran.
Thus, almost like Cod4.
I really suggest this game, if your into modern warfare, and if you have a passion for FPS. There is A LOT of action, so don't be disappointed.

Ignore the haters on Amazon... this game is simply the best online war experience to date. Most of the people that value this game as less than 3 stars either have had a problem with their delivery, can't get to grips with the new weapons, or are simply haters of the franchise. I personally think that this is a worthy new installment to the Call of Duty series and that Infinity Ward has once again raised the benchmark for FPS gaming. This claim will be put to the test soon by the soon to be released Bad Company 2 but time will tell.
The single player campaign is almost cinematic, with a great story and more twists than Jack Bauer could put up with. The new technology in both single and multiplayer has added an interesting new angle to the game, making it alot more difficult to find the "ultimate" class. Nothing seems to be easily beatable unless you are God's gift with a sniper rifle.
The graphics seem to have had an upgrade which I thought was an impossible feat following the release of COD4: Modern Warfare way back when. Personally glad to see the game back in the capable hands of Infinity Ward rather than Treyarch, I feel that this game has gone from strength to strength and with DLC coming soon apparently, this game will only get better. COD Vietnam is coming soon from the very same company that ruined World at War, so I think I'll be playing this along with Bad Company for years to come.
As I said at the start, ignore the bad feedback and go and buy this game today. It's essential. The Hardened Edition is not necessary and I doubt I would have paid the extra money for an artwork book but thats something for the purchasers discretion.

I was a cod4 fanatic, that game gave me months and months of enjoyment now to cod6, a lot to live up to.
the campaign:
very action packed, your heart doesnt slow down from start to finish.
however the story itself is weak, almost an afterthought.
the game is very very short. <5hours on Veteran (also not very difficult, I found parts in cod4 harder on vet)
However I genuinely enjoyed it, which is a rarity from a single player for me nowadays.
spec ops:
my favorite new aspect to the game - great fun for some split screen with a mate. Also some of these missions are alot harder than the campaign as you have to co-ordinate your actions.
All in all very very fun
Multiplayer:
the same as cod4 with new maps, new weapons, new perks, new attachments, also a few new game modes. So far it is great fun. However I am not a fan that IW have put in thermal sites and heartbeat sesnsors, these have detracted from the experience hugely, these give a huge advantage over lower ranked people who dont have access to these yet (or the counter perks).
heartbeat sensor is like a personal UAV for your local vacinity, it means you never have to be scared of a corner again :P and allows easily racking up huuuge kill streaks as unless someones is using a perk to counter this then they can never sneak up on you. So this removes from the twitch reflex shooting that was more prevelant in cod4
All in all this is cod4, with minor additions, IW haven't created a new game here. If you loved cod4 you will like this. If the multiplayer will be quite as fun a few months in is yet to be seen, at the moment I think new attachments could get annoying quickly

Thisgame is great, seiously if you liked the first one you'll be sure to enjoy this. The campaign is way more fun, and has an added little twist (plot spoiler). But enough of the campaign, online! now in my case this was the only real reason i bought this game, after modern warfare's online experiance. I coul'nt wait to play this one. I had high expectations, and happily was'nt deissapointed. The maps are really my thing. (very big). But the whole system is flawless. It's great when the host can't end the game just becuase you are beating him! And the guns, and attatchments are just so much better. The variety of items to choose from has improved greatly. And the Spec-ops is a nice little feature to play with your friends on too. All around great game, but take my word for it save £20 and DON'T buy the hardened edition. You just don't get your money's worth... but including the £20 more that i paid for a 6 page long art book! i'd still have to give this overall purchase a big 9/10!
