The ICY Dock is a simple and easy product to use. It fit right into a hard disk bay on the Mac Pro just as a standard hard drive would! It is very easy to mount the drive into the dock -- no screws are needed. It would be nice with added air flow and a more solid feel, but it sits securely inside the computer anyway.

I really should've paid attention to the few 1 star reviews on some other sites, but with so many good recommendations I was silly and chose to ignore them. Basically my unit was defective and it took some painstaking troubleshooting to identify cause of the problem. The ICY Dock is a simple and easy product to use. It fit right into a hard disk bay on the Mac Pro just as a standard hard drive would! It is very easy to mount the drive into the dock -- no screws are needed. It would be nice with added air flow and a more solid feel, but it sits securely inside the computer anyway.

I really should've paid attention to the few 1 star reviews on some other sites, but with so many good recommendations I was silly and chose to ignore them. Basically my unit was defective and it took some painstaking troubleshooting to identify cause of the problem. I was using this dock to host an Intel X25-M SSD inside my NAS, which has 5 3,5" hotswap bays, so there is no way to mount a 2,5" disk inside without an enclosure. The disk would work, most of the time, until it wouldn't. Zeroing out the disk with DD would give DMA CRC errors but would work, albeit very slowly (7.75mb/s). Writes would mostly work fine, but sometimes they wouldn't and once I did a system update which happened to get these errors in the process, the system was rendered completely unbootable. I tested the SATA ports in the NAS, they all work fine with my other (3.5") disks. I took the SSD out of the Icydock and throughly tested it in my desktop and it worked great.

Conclusion: this dock is horrible, if you value your time, stay away!
