4.0 out of 5 stars More than 18 hours to install. But it is worth it!
For some reason, I can only show one star for fun, but this is a five-star fun game

After finally installing the game (18+hours from the DVD!), all I can say is wow, what a game! Great action, great story, great locations. A fine follow-up to Modern Warfare. If you enjoyed the first game then this is for you.

The only issues I have, and this...

Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
First of i want to say that i really thought the single player part of the game was very impressive. The story line and gameplay i give it 5 stars gladly. I enjoyed it from start to finish.

However the single player is only a small part of what i wanted as i have been playing online games for years now, Sadly as much i really wanted to like this game the new IWNET system where the game is hosted on players home PC's it a terrible failure. At the moment i have reached level 42 so have have some experience of it.

The problem is lag about 50% of games i played the connection either fails totally or you get host migrated to another players PC,When waiting in the lobby for a game to start it drops the connection when it cannot connect to the host and you start over, Insead of using a server browser and popping onto a dedicated one where all your mates hang out. This lag and constant interuptions has ruined the gameplay for me. I am on an 8 meg line and when i play other games on properly run dedicated server this is not a issue as it happens very rarely.

The final tipping point came today is when the Aimbotters turned up, And with killcam there is no dispute when you see it snap to the players head and delivers a perfect shot every time, And since this is IWNET using valve anti cheat there are no Server admins to kick/ban them.

Why The developers thought IWNET and Valve anti cheat would fair any better than previous games is a mystery, Anybody who has played counter strike that uses VAC will know that Server admins where always kicking ainbotters/speedhackers etc because VAC couldent, So the reason for this i must assume is is cost related but in the history of online gaming there are always 2 constants. The first is that the game will always be pirated and the second is that the hackers will always find a way around the security. And while the game is hosted on your own PC i am concerned that it may allow attemts to get into your PC for malicious reasons.

For the record i was one of the people who voiced concerns regarding dedicated servers but i gave it a try and the gaming community was correct, On paper i am sure IWNET is a great idea but in reality you cant beat a dedicated server where you can make new friends and a decent admin.

1.0 out of 5 stars AIMBOT Heaven, 18 Jan 2010

If you want to get owned by pre-teens using AimBots for hours on end, this is the game for you.

There's no dedicated servers, no online admins to kick hackers, and very limited numbers of players at any one time per map. Oh - and the lag!? Don't get me started on that one!

As someone has already mentioned - this is obviously a console game hacked appart and re-constructed to run on the PC.

Very poor indeed. How low can these games go?

This is one for the kiddies who like to snigger into there sleeves as they feel the power of their AimBot. Wow . . .

.

Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
Infinity ward did a lousy port of a console game to the PC. The lack of dedicated servers forces us to a lag fest, leaning was removed because the xbox controller doesn't have enough buttons, custom maps are gone because they don't want ppl to be able to compete with the paid DLC, there are no mods so there will be no promod or pam mod for competitive, and if all of this wasn't enough they want us to pay premium price for a gimped product!

2.0 out of 5 stars Why Activision!!!! Why?????, 11 Nov 2009
Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
COD 6 is definitely an improvement on 4 and 5 in terms of graphics and overall realism. The single player campaign is admittedly quite short, but awesome all the same.

So why the 2 star review? The issues are simple: Activision has bizarrely decided to remove all dedicated servers, mods, community-made maps, and have limited online matches to an 18 player-cap (4 times fewer than COD 4 and 5). So in other words, they have eradicated just about everything that made COD online play good.

I cannot honestly think why they thought this would be a good thing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid, 21 Oct 2009
Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
I think that fact that amazon have deleted ~150 1 star reviews for this already speaks volumes. If you are in a clan, or want to play with friends, or want a game free of hacks, cheats and little kids playing music over voice chat, AVOID THIS GAME! No admins, no dedicated servers, no kicking idiots, 100ms pings, the list goes on. If you are in any doubt check out the IW forums, but take my advice, stick to COD4 till BF3 comes out.

1.0 out of 5 stars An insult to the PC gaming community, 13 Jan 2010

A shoddy console to PC port, an embarrassment to the developers, and an all-too obvious money grabbing dash. Utterly ruined the PC multiplayer - and with it the possibilities for communities to be formed around a much looked-forward to title following CoD4. IW have basically stated that they couldn't care less about the gamers they used to develop for, and kicked them into the cold.

Forget this game. By it preowned for the single player, then chuck it in the bin (or better still recycle it), and wait for Battlefield.

Shame on you IW. I will never by any of your products again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment of the year, 13 Nov 2009

Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Some time ago I have started playing Flashpoint 2. It's a nice game, gets the mix of realism vs playability just about right. What it lacks is any story, any connection of the player with the character and the feeling of being involved in something on a grand scale, in a war rather than a skirmish. I hoped for CoD to deliver just that.

The strengths of the CoD series are simple. Story and multiplayer. The single player is scripted and extremely linear, which in turn allows the creators to tell a great cinematic story. And that's what it's always been, movie-grade story that you could live through. That's why I was anxiously awaiting this installment. To cut to the chase - what a disappointment! The game is a PC port of a console arcade shooter. The story is on par with that. Written for 12yr olds with attention span of 1 minute, it is nonsensical, a poor excuse for real writing. Whilst the previous CoD games would cast you as a soldier fighting a war, the MW2 casts you as Superman/James Bond/Neo/V/Spiderman/Neon Genesis Evangelion. The elite soldier part is gone for good, say "bye-bye", what you are now is a 1337 pro who's job it is to pwn n00bz, pretty much the kind of nonsensical superhero that appeals to the console demographics. I do not understand why the game is rated 18+, it should have been rated 15-. I'm not going to go into details of the story not to spoil it for anyone who wants to experience that horror himself, suffice to say that it is to the games what Day After Tommorow is to the movies. Sadly I am not allowed to call the characters "shallow", as I'm not British and only the Brits have the right to use such tremendous understatement. Most of the time I didn't even know which char I was playing and I couldn't care less - they are all identical demigods.

As to the multiplayer (the second thing that made the series great) - I haven't even tried it and I'm not going to. The cap of 18 players in 2009 is just a poor, sad joke. One I've paid 30GBP for.

To sum it up: if you want an arcade shooter/interactive movie with BOOOOOOMBAAANG every two seconds and with enough SFX to make Emmerich blush, this game is for you.
If you want something closer to a milisim, with a good story - don't even think about buying this game.

For me this is the last installment of CoD. It looks like the series came to a screeching halt. I don't think I will ever buy another one.

Have to agree with a number of the sentiments already published, the developers have really badly screwed up this online experience... This is a key part of a gamers experience not sitting on his own playing on his home station... I'm certainly going to consider returning this product as I feel it's been missold...

1.0 out of 5 stars Epic fail, 21 Jan 2010
By Voedzoeker (Noord-Holland, The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
Let's get straight to the point. This game has an OK single player, not great, but everyone buys this game for the multiplayer. And that's the problem, they couldn't have ruined it more:

- IWnet is the worst matchmaking system I've ever seen
- They added even more attachments, weapons and perks that make it easier to camp, noobtube and spray
- If IWnet even manages to connect you to the server about 40% of them are laggy
- Too many overpowered weapons
- Too many cheaters
- Most of your fellow players are just constantly harassing you with their behaviour

In short: an EPIC FAIL

the single player game is great couldnt be better but the multiplayer is ruined by the matchmaking system as you tend to spend more time looking for a game than actuly playing one then if u get in a game you will come across a bad host and you will lag to death but when you finaly find a decent game it is brilliant but then it ends far to soon and your back looking for another. no dedicated severs destroys this game and stops it being what it should of been, if you want a good multiplayer game buy cod 4 untill iw fix this
