5.0 out of 5 stars Great hoover!
First impression when unpacking this hoover was how everything seemed to be top quality. The point where the tube connects to the hoover always seems to be the weakest point on any hoover, as it's usually pulled a lot, but this hoover has a clever looking reinforcement which should make it last a bit longer. The automatic cord pull works a dream, and it has a looong cord...

2.0 out of 5 stars 2nd Vacuum cleaner for household
It is very good on hard floors, I do not like it on carpets, it does not glide and no good for animal hairs on carpets. Nice & light but cannot compare with Meile Cat & Dog for performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great hoover!, 27 Jun 2009
This review is from: Bosch BSGL4000GB Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner, Black 2000W (Kitchen & Home)
First impression when unpacking this hoover was how everything seemed to be top quality. The point where the tube connects to the hoover always seems to be the weakest point on any hoover, as it's usually pulled a lot, but this hoover has a clever looking reinforcement which should make it last a bit longer. The automatic cord pull works a dream, and it has a looong cord! Suction power is really good, and variable. So far very happy with this hoover. Actually, when my mum tried it, she went out to get herself a new hoover from this brand. One thing though, it's only got two extra nozzles: a long thin one and a smaller mouthpiece. There's no brushpiece, which would have been nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good value and good suction., 22 Nov 2009
This review is from: Bosch BSGL4000GB Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner, Black 2000W (Kitchen & Home)
After years of being loyal to Dyson my will (but not the Dyson) finally gave out.
I used to live in a house with carpets and no stairs - an upright dyson really got rid of dog hair and was very powerful.
Now I live in a house with no carpets (2 rugs, but all hard wood floors) and the pull-along Bosch is all that I need.

POSITIVES:
The suction is good enough for all jobs I found so far. It's brilliant to have a vacuum cleaner light enough to pick up and be able to do upholstery and curtains with it. (The Dyson was too unweildy even using the hose... and too heavy.) The upholstery setting is brilliant.

The long cable means I have to move the plug around much less. I can do a whole 2 flights of stairs and the landing without stopping halfway and changing it to the other end!

The head has a great plastic strip along the back which sort of sweeps all the larger crumbs towards the suction point. Very clever and you feel like you're getting all the debris first time.

Manoeuverability is tip-top - this was a revelation after a big machine. I can do under all the furniture very easily.

I found the tools to be easily stored and click well into place - not falling off.

I almost bought a Henry but was concerned by the comments about stability. I do not treat my hoover well. I often treat it with force and anger - this Bosch is standing up to all treatment like a star. No falling over, no misbalance etc.

This is a light machine - after lugging round almost 9Kg of Dyson my back is thanking me for the change.

(In my instruction leaflet there were loads of buying options for replacement bags including fabric permanent bags!)

NEGATIVES:
After years of 'bagless' it does take some time to get used to the hoover bags. You definitely know when you need to change as, apart from the indicator, the suction goes down dramatically. I find the bags a little small. In a large house I get about a month per bag. (I've worked out that it will take me at least 5 years of buying bags before I'm even near the starting price for a Dyson... so I'm not going to worry about that.)

The cord does retract but it has to be fully pulled out before it will go in again. A little frustrating if you've only taken it out for a minute to hoover up something small.

The 'wand holding clip' does not hold the wand very effectively, luckily this wasn't a reason for buying.

OVERALL:
I'd buy this machine again, and again. I've recommended it to friends. I think it's brilliant and I doubt I'll ever spend Dyson-money again on a hoover. This really does the job, without breaking my back.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am a Bosch girl., 6 Jun 2009
This review is from: Bosch BSGL4000GB Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner, Black 2000W (Kitchen & Home)
I found this cleaner to be excellent in every respect. Light, compact, VERY powerful and the brushes pick up bits my other cleaner did not.
I was given a Bosch drill and screwdriver set for a birthday many years ago and every time I have needed to replace any thing I have bought Bosch. I now have washing machine, dishwasher, lawnmower and now cleaner as well as the drill set and have been more than happy with all of them. Please Bosch will you start a MAN production line and I will buy one. Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars easy & lightweight, 21 Aug 2009
This review is from: Bosch BSGL4000GB Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner, Black 2000W (Kitchen & Home)
This little vacuum cleaner is very efficient and has powerful suction. Whizzes round the house like a dream and fits away neatly when storing. Only negative I can say about it is the cable isn't long enough and you have to keep changing the electricity socket as you go round the house, but that is a minor point and I cannot be happier with the performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, 30 Sep 2009

Very good for a cylinder! Picks up well, struggled a little with cat & human hair on carpets but did a good job overall. Not too noisy either. Used on new carpets (lots of fluff) and vinyl and picked up well on both, had to clean lumps of fluff off the head a few times but that's just because our carpets are new.
We have also have a Hoover upright, and this picks up more fluff than that.
Very light, dead easy to get up and down the stairs.
Not sure what the classic starter pack is - some sites advertise this as giving you 10 hoover bags, but this only came with 2.
It might just be me, but I found the instructions a bit difficult to follow. The words meant pretty much nothing at all and the diagrams weren't really clear enough. Used a process of elimination and "what fits where?" to put it together in the end. There aren't that many parts so its not too bad, just a bit frustrating!!
I wanted something good on pet hair which was light and easy to get up and down the stairs and this seems to fit the bill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well pleased, 12 Sep 2009

I chose this vacuum cleaner because it was a 'Best Buy' in the 'Which' magazine. It is extremely well-made, easy to use and store, has two filters and a device which closes the dust bag before it is withdrawn. The hose is very flexible and the metal tube carrying the attachments extends to a variety of lengths, instead of the usual two separate plastic tubes. The price, £100, was about £17 cheaper than in Currys, who didn't have one in stock anyway!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic little cleaner, 29 Jan 2010
This review is from: Bosch BSGL4000GB Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner, Black 2000W (Kitchen & Home)
I thought I would replace the old vac before it died, and so had time to do a bit of research, including reading the reviews of previous buyers and going down to various electrical retailers to view other products. I narrowed my search down to two machines given I was after a cylinder bagged vac, Bosch and Miele. I decided on Amazon since the Bosch was over £20 cheaper than anywhere else, representing excellent value for money. I chose the Bosch since it was over £40 cheaper than the Miele and there seemed very little difference in the specification.
When it arrived I was surprised with how small and light it is, about a third smaller than the Miele. This means cleaning the stairs is a much easier job now, almost a pleasure! For such a small and light machine it also is powrful too, and very agile. The motor sounds great and is not too loud either, and although it has only a 4Ltr capacity that is very reasonable given the dimensions of the vac. Much bigger vac's have only a half Ltr more capacity than this one. The positive features of the vac are the on/off switch which also acts as the variable power control which is very smooth and offers excellent control of the power. You also have to be impressed with the filters on this vac, which includes a HEPA filter. Whilst the bags themselves have a clever sealing mechanism which is also very good.
There are a couple of negative points though. The hose I find is a little on the short side, as the one I've been used to an Electrolux was slightly longer. And the additional attachments are a little fiddly to fit into the body of the vac, a symptom of the small size of the vac itself resulting in some improvised planning by Bosch to its fitment into the vac. However, once you figure out how to do it they fit fine.
All in all a very nice machine that comes with three dust bags and represents excellent value for money. Great if you want a good quality small vac with lots of power.
