Feeder
This feeder is good and the Goldfinches love it. I have one complaint and that is when you fill it the lid and handle come off and have to be fixed each time.

If you hang it, they might come..., 7 May 2009
This review is from: Chapelwood Niger Seed Feeder 8" (Garden & Outdoors)
I'm lucky enough to live in an area where plenty of beautiful Goldfinches flitter about and in an effort to encourage them into my garden, I bought this great little feeder and hung it up on a pole and now they're all over it. It took only 2 days for them to discover it, and now they're running through Niger seed like it's going out of fashion - they seem to be almost "hooked" on the stuff - but that's great, because they really are beautiful little birds and I could watch them for hours if I only had the free time.
This is a tidy stainless steel and clear plastic product with a flip top lid to pour the seed in, a metal loop to hang it with, and two perches. You will need a convenient hook or suitable pole to hang it from and access to somewhere that sells Niger and/or Thistle seed to fill it with and, of course, a suitable - cat free - safe spot to position it where you can observe the birds comings and goings if you wish to (you might, after all just want to feed the birds without watching them as an altruistic act, and if so, well done to you, but you'll be missing out on a real treat.)
The retailers warn that you should only buy this kind of feeder if you know that the appropriate species of birds are in your area so it's not necessarily magically going to make them appear, but if you have already seen them around - "If you hang it, they will come..." (probably).

Useful bird feeder, 12 May 2009
This review is from: Chapelwood Niger Seed Feeder 8" (Garden & Outdoors)
Useful, well-made bird feeder, attracts the goldfinches very quickly. I bought two feeders and within a week saw as many as 13 goldfinches on and around the feeders. They also attract siskins, but I've not seen any yet.

The goldfinch magnet!, 17 Jun 2010
This review is from: Chapelwood Niger Seed Feeder 8" (Garden & Outdoors)
I had seen the odd goldfinch on my garden fence - maybe one every 2 weeks, then away - and thought how cool it would be to get them to stop a while so i could get a good view of their beautiful colours.
After trying a general seed feeder and a peanut feeder i got nothing but the same old house sparrows (sorry sparrows, cute & confident little things that you are, but i see you all the time)
After a little research i found that goldfinches love niger seed, but you need a suitable feeder such as this Chapelwood product, so i splashed out the ten quid with the hope that this would do the trick. But after one full day i got absolutely nothing, nada, niente!...yup i know i'm really impatient!.
Next day i got home from work and there where clear signs of activity, seeds had clearly been taken. Could it be?..yup!..there they were. I spent the rest of the evening watching the pretty things come and go
How they found the feeder i don't know, but if you've seen one around then i'm sure you can bring more....it is a 'goldfinch magnet'!
Though i should say, the birds don't come to look at the feeder, it is the niger seed they are interested in. So maybe a cheaper feeder would work as well...i don't know, but this is well built and seems durable.

Goldfinches in your garden, 16 May 2010
This review is from: Chapelwood Niger Seed Feeder 8" (Garden & Outdoors)
We love watching garden birds, and have a small variety of feeders and a bird bath to attract them. I am amazed at how birds KNOW where the food is, especially in an enclosed feeder such as this one. Within a day of filling and hanging up the Niger Feeder, a pair of goldfinches were on it, pecking away. Now they return daily, and the level is gradually going down. The Feeder is a sturdy product, built to last. So far they are the only birds that use it, but what joy to see goldfinches in our garden!

well made, 28 Jan 2010
This review is from: Chapelwood Niger Seed Feeder 8" (Garden & Outdoors)
This is an excellent feeder. It is well built and designed so the niger seed stays dry and the birds can get at it easily. Our old niger feeder attracted goldfinches, but we wasted lots of seed through it getting wet, and it required adaptations to make it work at all. No problems with this one, and we've very quickly attracted far more birds, the garden is alive with them. I've ordered another for my mother. We have to buy a lot of seed now though!

Niger Feeder, 7 Aug 2010
This review is from: Chapelwood Niger Seed Feeder 8" (Garden & Outdoors)
Very pleased with this and so are the birds, I now have Gold Finches and Green Finches visiting to feed from it. The only fault I find is the way the top comes off when filling it.
Delivery was speedy and was as advertised, I can recommend this seller.

niger feeder, 30 July 2010
This review is from: Chapelwood Niger Seed Feeder 8" (Garden & Outdoors)
I wanted to attract goldfinch into our garden. My friend told me about the niger seed which brought them into her garden. I bought the feeder from Amazon and it is excellent. It took a few days before I saw a goldfinch feeding from it but now several weeks later there are several. They stay on the feeder for about 10 minutes. They have such lovely markings, you can't mistake them. The feeder is very easy to fill and sturdy. I am very pleased with it
