1.0 out of 5 stars Epilator
The epilater takes out long hairs but does not given a smooth finish like shaving or waxing. It works but there is always rough stubble left.
Ingrowing hairs are a problem afterwards despite my usual gentle daily exfoliation with a body brush.

Okay so i bought this Epilator because i needed a replacement for the one i had been using, because it was battery powered and that was very annoying. So i bought it mainly for the fact you could plug it in at the wall. It arrived today and i thought i'd give it a quick whirl. When i turned it on it frightened the hell out of me because the one i am used to doesn't go as fast as this one and i didnt really want to put it on my leg... but i braved it. SOO glad i did!! Its virtually painless to me!! I don't know if this is because the one i was using before built up my tolerance to it or just because this one is fab!? but either way i definately recommend it i think its brilliant!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good little product, 20 Mar 2008
By Bod (Ossett) - See all my reviews
I bought this epilator because I was sick of shaving every other day and wanted a longer solution. I was not disappointed in it as it does last for a couple of weeks and when hairs re-grow they are sporadic and fine so are not as noticable as the stubble you get from shaving.

There is some pain but at least you are controlling it and the more you use it the less painful it becomes. I did not try it after bathing because I found if the legs were damp it seems to stick on the skin and I have had to use talc to dry the skin out so it will glide better. With the roller attachment it is possible to use on the underarms and bikini line but this can be painful.

The only downside with epilating is that I think it cuts some hairs instead of epilating them as I find blunt growth a couple of days after whilst other epilated hairs take longer to grow and are finer, for this I have knocked a star off the rating. Some hairs do tend re-grow under the skin and cause irritation but of course this can happen with any hair removal.

Tips: do it on an old towel and shake out the hairs outside. When doing underarms work from the sides to the centre in small strips (because of the pain) and check in the mirror as hairs are easily missed. Stretch skin when epilating in softer areas (underarms/groin area) as the skin can get pinched between the epilator and roller causing pain and leaving marking (also why I have given it 4 stars).

I cannot compare this with other epilators as this is the only one I have ever used but I am very pleased with it and recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Braun Silk.epil Soft Perfection Epilator, 18 May 2008

Just bought a Braun Silk.epil Soft Perfection epilator.I'd used my Philips Satinelle epilator for years but was never really that impressed with it as I found it seemed to shave a lot of the hairs instead if epilating them aswell as being extremely painful. So when I saw the Braun Silk.epil advertised on the television I thought I'd give it a try.I've just used it and buying it was the best decision I've made in a long time.It is brilliant.I hate waiting for the hairs to be long enough to epilate but with this you don't have to wait long as it pulls out much shorter hairs than the Philips Satinelle. It also pulls out more rather than just cutting them off because you can feel them being pulled out but rather strangely it hurts a lot less than the Philips Satinelle.Infact, compared to the pain I'm used to you can hardly feel anything at all with the Braun Silk.epil while you are using it.After however where the hairs have been pulled out it does sting a little, that is how you can tell that it has actually pulled the hairs out not just shaved them off.A big thumbs up for this epilator.Would definately recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic!!!!, 20 May 2010
This review is from: Braun Silk-épil Soft Perfection 3170 Epilator (Personal Care)
I chose this epilator essentially because of the price (which is very reasonable). I wanted to try it because I was sick of shaving all the time because for me my stubble is very dark and shaving only last a day to be honest. I tried hair removal creams and got a nasty rash so that hair removal option was out, I have also tried various home waxing products (wax strips, hot wax n the stuff you warm up n it sets on your legs with no need for fabric sheets) but I found them all messy and difficult, so I decided to try epilation, as salon waxing is expensive and I think quite embarrassing.

Initially I was quite apprehensive to try this because iv heard it is supposed to hurt even more than waxing, but hey as we women know very well, no pain no gain especially in the pursuit of beauty, so I bought this product. When I turned it on I was terrified it is quite loud and is very fast! I was scared to put it any where near me, but I told myself to stop being a baby n just do it. To my utter surprise there was hardly any pain at all!!! I was delighted!! I wont lie yes it is uncomfortable at first, it is removing hair from the root, but it was much more bearable than the various types of wax I have tried. Using this epilator sort of felt like being pinched lightly wherever I put it, I could tell the hairs were being removed but it was not painful, just sort of tingly to be honest it sort of felt the same as when you get an itch n scratch it a bit to hard. Its also relevant to say that once all the hairs in the area you are epilating have been plucked the discomfort goes completely and just feels like a vibration on the skin So far iv tried it on my legs and arms and was left feeling very smooth and quite happy with myself. I have not braved the more sensitive areas yet but I have a feeling it wont be as bad as past efforts with wax.

All in all a fantastic product i'm very happy!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars what is all the fuss about?, 13 May 2010
This review is from: Braun Silk-épil Soft Perfection 3170 Epilator (Personal Care)
I have never epilated in my life, I only very recently decided I wanted to try waxing. I've always shaved, but recently wanted to try other methods, my hair grows reasonably quickly and to be honest I wanted something that would offer better results for longer. I tried waxing but it just seemed to messy, leaving bits of wax stuck to my legs and missing patches etc.. so the next method...epilating. I've heard horror stories about these things and to be honest, had been put if off. I stared looking for my first epilator, but didn't fancy spending a lot of money of something I didn't know if I would like. The first reason I looked at this epilator is the price, so for that alone I think it is worth every penny. I got mine today and have just done my underarms, quite a sensitive area, possibly not the best place to start, but if it worked there I figured it would work on my legs too. it takes a few goes over the area, but I don't mind this, it means you can really make sure every hair is gone. Obviously it hurts, but you do get used to the pain, and for my first time I am pleasantly surprised at how tolerable it is. when there are no more hairs it simply stops hurting. I'm really pleased I bought this and at a really good price I would definitely recommend it. You will need to by a plug adapter for this, one for shavers, unless you have a plug in your bathroom, but other than that its great.

Pleased with this purchase, received quicker than expected which was good. Only problem is that it doesn't remove all hairs but that may be due to the fact that i have mastered the technique yet. Would recommend to all

Maybe it was the way I was using it but it's not for me! It was not painful & did remove the hair but I like a really smooth finish.
My sensitive skin stayed with the 'plucked chicken' appearance for 2 weeks after I stopped using it. (Waxing or laser removel usually only leaves the skin inflamed for 1 day afterwards.)
The company selling it was excellent. It arrived on time, in perfect condition & no other problems with a fair price.

For the price I was very pleasantly surprised. This epilator works very well, hardly any pain, and despite previous reviews works fine in England on any 2 pin shaver plug socket. Would certainly recommend
