Pleasing both gadget lovers and dentists
The Triumph consists of two main parts, the brush handle with brush head and the wireless SmartGuide unit. The handle communicates with the SmartGuide to relay information on which of four pre-programmed brush actions you're using, how much time has elapsed since you started and which area of your mouth you should be cleaning. It also gives you a visual (but not audible)...

Great product ...but...
I bought this product 13 months ago.
It is very good and works well. I gave up on the wall clock as i never used it.
My big problem is that after about 8months use it started to loose its charge quickly.
After 12 months it uses one 'bar' per day and so is useless for traveling.

Pleasing both gadget lovers and dentists, 30 Dec 2007
This review is from: Braun Oral-B Professional Care 9900 Triumph with SmartGuide Rechargeable Power Toothbrush (Personal Care)
It also gives you a visual (but not audible) warning if you're brushing too hard and will advise you when each brush head needs replacing. Two brushes are included in the package, one a FlossAction for everyday use, and the other a ProBright for occasional polishing; inserting one of them into the handle will automatically select the appropriate brush action, which is then displayed on the SmartGuide unit.
Electric toothbrushes do take some getting used to if you've only ever had manual brushes but once you get into a routine the whole experience does leave your teeth feeling cleaner and with less chance of causing damage to your gums than a conventional brush. The brush gives around an hour of total use from a 12 hour charge and the whole thing (handle as well) is waterproof, which makes cleaning after use much easier than older brushes - you just run it under a tap and wipe it dry on a towel. You also get a travel case included so can take the brush with you on holiday. I would add that the handle is a little heavy and somewhat ungainly in the hand at first, whilst the placing of the buttons makes them a bit easy to press in the middle of a clean, so changing the action just when you don't want it.
The SmartGuide itself is a nice inclusion that does look good and gives some useful information, although if I'm brutally honest it's by no means an indispensable addition. It isn't illuminated, which could be an annoyance if you have a poorly lit bathroom, and it can be a bit of a pain to keep it in view when brushing so I find myself not looking at it which kind of defeats the purpose of having it. The handle vibrates slightly at given intervals while you brush to advise you on timing and I tend to use this rather than the timer shown on the SmartGuide.
Like all Oral B toothbrushes, this one cleans well and should last a long time of use. The SmartGuide is a nice but not essential inclusion and replacement brush heads are pretty expensive, but you do seem to get quite a lot for your money with this package. If you like electric toothbrushes then you'll really like this one; if you've yet to try one but the price is putting you off then maybe consider going for a cheaper oral B brush or the Triumph without the SmartGuide as I doubt you'd miss it too much.

To be honest even when it was new the charge was not great but it was acceptable.I have arranged with Braun to get it repaired under warranty.

Really does clean your teeth, 28 Dec 2007
This review is from: Braun Oral-B Professional Care 9900 Triumph with SmartGuide Rechargeable Power Toothbrush (Personal Care)
This is a brilliantly engineered product and after you use it you will feel that your teeth have really been cleaned in the same way that the dentist does. The tootbrush has a rotary action and comes with colour coded brushes for both normal cleaning and polishing your teeth (as well as different colours for other users). The progress of your clean is shown on the cordless LCD display (by radio link from the tootbrush unit) which gets you to divide your mouth up into four quartiles for brushing and encourages you to devote 30 seconds to each one (pulsating at "changeover" to the next section of your teeth). The remote LCD display will also indicate if you use too much pressure and when you have brushed for 2 minutes a smiling face acknowledges your effort. There are a variety of toothbrush settings - normal, polish etc. plus an LCD display on the toothbrush unit itself to show the charge left in the batteries.
You will soon get the hang of using this well conceived product. It is an excellent toothbrush in terms of design and build as well as outcome - it really does leave your mouth feeling extra fresh. A highly recommended investment that could save on your dental bills making it easily worth the money.

Ubelievable cleaning!, 16 Jan 2008
This review is from: Braun Oral-B Professional Care 9900 Triumph with SmartGuide Rechargeable Power Toothbrush (Personal Care)
I have had a Braun Oral B electric toothbrush for years, and loved it dearly until it disintegrated the other day.
So I invested, and at this price its an investment!, in a new one.
I am blown away.
First of all the design is very attractive.
Secondly, its nice to see how much charge it has in it, I go away a lot, so its good to know if you have to charge it before setting off for a few days.
Then there is the brushing guide. I had put this down to being a gimmick, but its very useful. It shows whether you are brushing too hard, reminds you when to change brush heads etc.
Then there are the two supplied brush heads, my teeth have never been so clean. Very clean.
So if you want an advanced toothbruch that gets your teeth clean.
Has programmes to massage gums etc.
Warns you if you brush too hard.
Warns you if it needs charging.
Warns you when you need a new head.
And looks pleasing to the eye, then this is the one for you.

I can't stop smiling with this toothbrush!, 27 May 2008
This review is from: Braun Oral-B Professional Care 9900 Triumph with SmartGuide Rechargeable Power Toothbrush (Personal Care)
I bought this toothbrush after my previous Phillips Sonicare started to lose its battery charge. I thought that was a good toothbrush until I started using this one; I can honestly say this blows the Sonicare brush out of the water.
Firstly you can feel the difference with your tongue. Each tooth is easily cleaned, probably because the heads are smaller and can get round the edges better. I find myself cleaning longer than the recommended 2 minutes as I want that 'dentist' clean each time.
The floss action head is truly remarkable. The first time I used the brush it actually broke away the build up of tarter found at the back of my bottom teeth. Previously the dentist would have to remove this.
The polishing head seems to be producing good results as well. The 28 day guarantee of whiter teeth has definitely worked - I felt they were whiter after just a few days of use, especially around the eye teeth which seemed yellower than the others.
The smartguide aid is a bit gimmicky though and not necessary, although it's been handy to have a clock in the bathroom i've never used it to check how long i've been brushing for. I can imagine it being a good tool for younger kids as it smiles once you've cleaned for 2 minutes.
Whilst it is expensive for a toothbrush I'd defintely get this model again.

the toothbrush of tomorrow, today !, 16 Aug 2008
This review is from: Braun Oral-B Professional Care 9900 Triumph with SmartGuide Rechargeable Power Toothbrush (Personal Care)
When my old oral-b died the other day :( i decided to get the Braun Oral-B Triumph 9500 with SmartGuide as i liked the SmartGuide feature & the performance of the other two Braun Oral-B toothbrushes i have had before, about 8 years ago i changed from a manual toothbrush to a electric & the diffrence was profound but the Triumph 9500 is simply in a diffrent league.
It may seem a bit over the top & for gadget freaks but the SmartGuide is a great feature & the new Triumph Floss Action Toothbrush Heads are such a improvement on the old style of brush head & combined with the Triumph 9500 it truly is the toothbrush of the future today !

Is it possible to fall in love with a toothbrush? Yes!, 30 Nov 2008
This review is from: Braun Oral-B Professional Care 9900 Triumph with SmartGuide Rechargeable Power Toothbrush (Personal Care)
I am a fan of electric toothbrushes, and liked the Sonicare ones I have had in the past(ones being the operative word since they had a short battery life and were rendered useless within 12 months; also the replacement heads were SO expensive). I have been using an Oral B toothbrush for the last year and thought I would 'upgrade' when I saw this one on Amazon - it was heavily reduced.
Oh my God! This toothbrush truly is the bee's knees! The SmartGuide is most definitely NOT a gimmick but really useful. I have stuck it on my bathroom mirror and it's incredibly helpful when you're brushing your teeth.
No wonder the toothbrush itself is Oral B's cream of the crop; I have never felt my teeth so clean and gleaming. I reckon I used to brush too hard with other brushes, but this one alerts you when you are pressing too hard.
Oral B offer a 24 month refund - if you're not thrilled with your brush for any reason, you can return it for a full refund. that's how confident the company is in the success of their amazing toothbrush.
I could rabbit on forever, but if you are contemplating buying a new electric toothbrush, I wholeheartedly recommend this super dooper one!!

Amazing, 7 Nov 2008
This review is from: Braun Oral-B Professional Care 9900 Triumph with SmartGuide Rechargeable Power Toothbrush (Personal Care)
Have been using this for just over a week now and it really is in a whole diffrent leauge. I've been using both the floss-action and pro-bright heads that come with the triumph, and both have given excellent results.
I'm a smoker and have used all sorts of whitening toothpastes, but can say with confidence my teeth have never been as clean as after a single brushing with the floss action head. Using regular flouridated toothpaste.
Remember that this toothbrush has to be used in a completely different way from ordinary brushes. All you do is guide the brush around your mouth. No brushing or pressure is required, the smart guide will also tell you when your applying too much pressure.
Also if you don't have a shaver plug in your bathroom you will need to buy an adaptor (EU to UK) to charge it.
The travel case has also been handy, it has space for two brush heads as well, so if if travelling as a couple you'll only have to carry one unit and a brush head each.

One massive flaw, 22 July 2009
This review is from: Braun Oral-B Professional Care 9900 Triumph with SmartGuide Rechargeable Power Toothbrush (Personal Care)
When I spend somewhere near £100 on a toothbrush, I'd like it to last more than 1.5 years. However, the battery needs replacing and to my great shock, you have to replace the whole handle - the expensive bit essentially. Great news for Oral-B but it does mean I'll never buy one of their products again as I feel conned.

I'm a dentist and this is simply a perfect toothbrush!, 8 Dec 2007
This review is from: Braun Oral-B Professional Care 9900 Triumph with SmartGuide Rechargeable Power Toothbrush (Personal Care)
Firstly, you must use this brush very differently to a manual toothbrush. Think floor polisher and not vacuum cleaner. Move slowly and deliberately over each tooth. Make sure you get the brsitles between the tooth and gums. Also change the heads frequently, I find mine last as little as 3 weeks before losing optimum effectiveness. If the bristles are buckled or bent, then they're not working nearly as well as they should.
So why is it the perfect brush? Well a small round head can get to all parts of the mouth. Both the Cochrane Review and Bandolier (both hugely respected independent UK research organisations) have checked multiple studies and found ONLY a rotating oscillating brush is significantly better than a manual toothbrush - i.e. a brush like this.
Also, these brushes have bristles that are longer in just the right parts to clean between gums and have sensors to stop you overloading any part of your mouth.
The cheaper Oral-Bs: Vitality Sensitive Clean, Pro Care 5000, Pro Care 7000, Pro Care 8500 - all feature the same basic round head and simple bristles that are tried and tested. Just make sure you get one of these for your teeth!
