Bosch quality?
Just bought one with great regret.
After putting it together, I try it out and discover that the grass collection box does not fit to the mower assembly and grass flies out from the lack of joins, especially at the close down, spring flap.
On telephoning Bosch's technical line, it is quite apparent that this is a known fault and they say I should...

Person who loves gardening but finds cutting the lawn a chore, 7 Dec 2008
This review is from: Bosch Rotak 34 Electric Rotary Lawn Mower (DIY & Tools)
At the beginning of the year I moved house and with the new house came a larger garden and more lawn!!! My old lawnmower sulked and gave up. As I was in need of an urgent replacement I wasn't able to carry out much research but I wasn't disappointed with my choice. I noted other peoples reviews regarding assembly etc but with patience and care there isn't a problem and the end result is worth it. The cut was excellent, the grass collection amazing and it's feature of being able to cut close to walls etc lived up to the hype. I would recommend this lawnmower the only very minor fault is the cheap 3 pin plug that would shatter as soon as it was dropped onto concrete. I have replaced this with a rubber 3 pin plug.

very good choice, 15 July 2007
This review is from: Bosch Rotak 34 Electric Rotary Lawn Mower (DIY & Tools)
I bought this to replace a burnt out flymo and this is easily the best mower I have ever used. The construction is solid and the grass collection the most efficient I have ever seen.

what a cracker, 27 Aug 2008
This review is from: Bosch Rotak 34 Electric Rotary Lawn Mower (DIY & Tools)
amazon supplied the rotak with free delivery and a large saving.Delivery was quick with no problems The box looked big and the parts looked complicated but I had a friend who put it together for me The general comment that it was not paticularly easy, paticulary the grass box.I have used it today and found it brilliant paticularly after my qualcast cylinder model which was awful. The edging system is great and it leaves good lines. The grass box is adequate and easy to empty, although the cable is slightly short for my usage. The bigger Rotak 40 has a longer cable and might be worth considering if one does not want to bother with extension cables, but at 30 pounds extra is probably not worth the extra. The cable tidy for the handles are worth the extra three pounds or so and these can be obtained from Amazon. The carrying handle is a clever idea and works. All in all the best machine I Have owned

so glad i did my research., 2 July 2008
This review is from: Bosch Rotak 34 Electric Rotary Lawn Mower (DIY & Tools)
I had my heart set on a cylinder mower after my black and decker rotary, and petrol rotary had both packed up. Research and reviews however dissuaded me from the popular Qualcast cylinder, and pointed me in the direction of the Bosch Rotak range. I bought one yesterday and, despite having wet grass, mowed both my lawns. The results were really impressive, with the height adjustment easy, the mower being very light and manoevreable, and the collection box doing exactly what its mean to do. My lawns look great, and I am very happy with my purchase. It really pays to do your research, and my thanks go to all previous reviewers for this, and other products.

Brilliant Mower, 16 Jun 2008
This review is from: Bosch Rotak 34 Electric Rotary Lawn Mower (DIY & Tools)
Ordered this on a Friday it was delivered early on the following Monday. Cut my wet grass brilliantly, my Qualcast Cobra 32 mower couldn't cope with wet grass and was always clogging up the grass intake to the box. The only snag so far with the Bosch mower was the grassbox. On assembly the handle fell off and on contacting Amazon they refunded part of the price. A joiners clamp and a touch of super glue got the offending handle back on. This is far the best cutting mower I have owned and I've had a few over the years. Lovely striped finish and no clogged grassbox

Goodbye Dandelions, 23 April 2008
This review is from: Bosch Rotak 34 Electric Rotary Lawn Mower (DIY & Tools)
Worked right out of the box (I've always wanted to say that but as I mostly review books I haven't been able to until now) well, after a bit of assembly. I've used it several times and it is very maneuverable owing to the fairly large wheels. Makes a suitably throaty operating noise so the neighbours will know when you are out cutting with your Bosch.
The range of cut heights is excellent. The wheels are raised or lowered by a chunky gear lever devise and it does take a bit of getting used too because it works in conjunction with a strong spring. With previous machines I've noticed that grass and earth can build up in the blade housing, usually happens with damp or wet grass but with the Bosch it doesn't happen, probably to do with the designed inside curve of the housing. A really nice touch is the carrying handle on the top, seems such a simple idea but plenty of electric mowers don't have it. My only crit is the roller to create stripes is not as wide as the actual cutting strip but as few folks round here will see them I can live with that.
Tip 1: for a long lasting machine: After use I always get rid of grass cuttings with an old paintbrush and my previous Qualcast rotary lasted fourteen years (far longer than manufacturers would like) but now too old, in fact, to replace the cutting blade so I chose a Bosch and so far a good buy.
Tip 2: after you've used the mower and you like it go and buy a replacement blade (I've bought two) because if you look after the machine it will last longer than replacement blades are available.

German Efficiency, 4 April 2009
This review is from: Bosch Rotak 34 Electric Rotary Lawn Mower (DIY & Tools)
This is, without a doubt, the best mower we've ever owned. Suffice to say over the past 3 or 4 years, we had been buying endless 'Flymo' mowers in the hope that a better price tag would improve performance. Yet not such the case - they're all just as bad as each other, and if the plastic blades didn't just become blunt, the contraption just wouldn't cut cleanly.
So were glad like the other reviewers that we did our research. Our lawn looks like it could pass on Wembley football pitch, and it's never looked so healthy and clean. The motor is really nice design - it's not a cheap bunch of parts like on other brands. When idle, you can really feel the power of the magnet against the copper.
The mower even looks so slick and modern, almost aerodynamic. I guess this is more of a guy thing (like dismantling car radios), but you can't help at praising it's super design and good looks.
In typical German fashion, everything is simple and well built. Putting it together could even be done without the instructions in a matter of minutes - it's just like a 'Playmobil' toy. And funnily enough, they're German too! Aside from the sections you need to fix together manually, the pre-fixed pieces of the mower (which are only about a handful of large plastic shapes) look like part of Model-Kit set, it's just so simple.
On the side, their is a large handle that allows you to adjust the back-wheel height. This is handy if you only want your grass a certain length, or just want some added suspension - on the whole however, we keep it at its lowest setting.
The best feature of the mower is the ability to just slot in the cuttings-collector on the back. This is done by merely lifting up a panel on the back, and clipping this over the collecting box. The great thing about this panel is that it also acts as a lid for when the box isn't in place! It has a good strong spring too.
The box, again, is well designed with a nice chunky handle and good light weight. You'll be amazed on your first cutting at how this baby turns the grass into a mulch, it's that fine cut! It also means it doesn't stick much to the box, so you can just literally empty it in one go.
After a good mow, cleaning isn't a problem as all the plastic fascia's resist a dust pan and brush well, and of course they're nice and this. Bosch also had the foresight to give the fascias a textures/matte finish, so it resists scrubbing marks. It would have been nice if a scraper was included in the package, but that's just nit-picking.
If theirs one thing for sure, its that we'll never go back to a Flymo. I can't recommend this product enough!

It eats long wet grass, 27 Sep 2008
This review is from: Bosch Rotak 34 Electric Rotary Lawn Mower (DIY & Tools)
I was not looking forward to mowing the back lawn with 8 inches of wet grass.
A job that used to take two days has now turned into a half hour job . The Rotek 34 had no problem handling the long wet grass , did not seize up or get clogged up with long grass . Holds a decent amount of grass clippings .
Easy to assemble light enough in use .I am just glad i spent the extra money and bought this machine .

Fantastic mower!, 13 April 2009
This review is from: Bosch Rotak 34 Electric Rotary Lawn Mower (DIY & Tools)
I bought a flymo a year ago and although was advised against it by the salesperson in the diy store I felt it would be good enough for my small front and back lawns, and had the benefit of hanging it on the wall. That was in fact the only benefit and I hated mowing my lawn so much I had plans of ripping the whole thing up.
That has all changed since buying my Rotak 34 today! I read all the reviews on here and had rather high expectations. I'm glad to say it met all my expectations!
I had half my lawn cut and half was very long from when my flymo gave up, but the bosch easily went over the short and long grass. I just changed the cutting height - which is extremely easy to do, and I now have lovely even grass.
I felt it was easy to put together, although it was a bit tricky getting the top on the cutting box, but once its on, its on. It is very lightweight and easy to carry, and I really like the position of the handle. The cutting box clips in place easily and securely, and the mower can be used without the box as it has a little cover for when the box is not in place.
All in all an excellent mower and I will never ever go back to a flymo again!

Bosch Rotak 34, 22 Aug 2008
This review is from: Bosch Rotak 34 Electric Rotary Lawn Mower (DIY & Tools)
Mine landed today from Amazon, this is the best mower I've ever owned. Makes my old Flymo look quite shabby. Easy to assemble, light, and will cut any lawn whether long, wet or carpet grass. There's plenty of height adjustment with this mower. I had some pretty wet long grass on the back lawn (about 60cm and laying flat) the Rotak 34 made it a breeze with the very powerful 1400 watt motor. I'd recommend this mower to anyone.
