Perfect present for little girls
We have had various dolls before this one- previous versions of baby annabelle and baby chou chou, baby born and from my daughters' point of view, this is definitely the best. They love the 'real' tears and she has been played with by my 8, 6 and 4 year old with great enjoyment. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is that I have some doubts about durability- twice...

A bit of a disapointment
I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. She fell in love with her at first sight on Christmas morning. My problem is the battery use. You can't use anything except top quality (i.e. top price) batteries. If you use standard batteries or rechargeables there is not enough top end power when she cries. If this happens she just turns herself off and won't do...

A bit of a disapointment, 22 Jan 2008

I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. She fell in love with her at first sight on Christmas morning. My problem is the battery use. You can't use anything except top quality (i.e. top price) batteries. If you use standard batteries or rechargeables there is not enough top end power when she cries. If this happens she just turns herself off and won't do anything until you unscrew the battery compartment and remove and replace a battery (not terribly convenient). Then she works fine again until she is next fed and cries. It took us some time and an e-mail or two to Zapf to work this out (they recommended only Duracell M3 or Energiser ultimate batteries) as there is no mention of this in the instructions and we even went as far as getting a replacement Annabell only to find the same thing happened.
In itself this might not be an issue, but played with regularly I am having to change the batteries every 10 days or so as they get to about 50% used and the same thing happens again. So it's expensive and a hassle. Basically it must just be a bad design that the crying requires so much power the batteries can't support it. I am stuck with it as my daughter loves her so much (although she has mentioned that it would be nice if Annabell wasn't so heavy), but if I wasn't it would be going back.
So in summary my daughter loves her, but as a parent I certainly wouldn't recommend this version to anyone else.

But a huge hit with the girls!

What a mistake ...., 24 Dec 2007
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Zapf Creation Baby Annabell Version 4 (Toy)
Avoid version 4 of this doll.
What has changed fro previous version ?
Well, this time Baby Annabell incorporates a robot body with an oscilating fan type motor just too big, and it differs so much from the soft parts of the dolls body that it makes her look like a Hunchback ...
So disappointed, 100% worse than version 3 wich was pretty good...

Great fun but slightly heavy for younger children possibly??, 30 Dec 2007
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Zapf Creation Baby Annabell Version 4 (Toy)
My daughter had this as a replacement for a similar style doll (store own) which we kept having faults with. My first thought was that she is very heavy due to the motor, etc but my 4 year old doesn't seem to have any trouble with this. The head-turning action is quite freaky but you soon get used it (although I think my daughter's voice is slightly high and she doesn't always respond to her). She has a flesh coloured body (unlike the common white middle section) which we liked as it is more realistic.
It does take a while to get the tear function to work but this is purely because she needs chance to drink kenough water on first use. Subsequent uses have been very good thought, however I would suggest a face cloth for drying her as you would spend a fortune on tissues!! You also need to watch out for any drips later on as my daughter has been caught out several times where a tiny amount have water has spilt out onto her (we're not talking major amounts here though)
I'm not sure if she gurgles as much as previous dolls as I've not really seen much of them but my daughter seems quite happy with the noises that she makes.
All in all I would say she has been in hit with my daughter and both my partner ans I have found her quite amusing. Definitely a well-loved toy!

Beware - does not do what the technical details claim, 5 Jan 2009
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Zapf Creation Baby Annabell Version 4 (Toy)
I ordered this for my daughter's Christmas present and unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. This is not so much the fault of the manufacturer (yes, the doll does disappoint in some ways and I'll get to those later) as of amazon's product description. It is claimed, in the technical details above, that "Baby Annabell cries real tears, eats special doll food, drinks water, wets her diapers, uses her potty, squeaks, goes in the water, and has moveable arms and legs". My daughter had specifically asked for a doll that wets its diapers and uses a potty and when Annabell finally arrived we were disappointed to discover that it does not do these things. Other customers should be aware that this doll also does not eat special doll food or go in the water either, so take care before buying.
As for what the doll can do, it does cry after being fed from its water bottle, turn its head, and has a number of limited sounds (the sleeping, burping, sucking and crying sounds are all realistic but the laughing is just plain odd). However, the appeal of these functions does wear off after a while. On the plus side, the doll seems to be reasonably well made and is still intact two weeks later.

Santa delivered the version 4 baby annabell to my house last week, and has since provided much entertainment for my 4 year old. She loves the fact that annabell turns her head and has spent many an hour trying to stop her from crying. Excellent doll with lovely feature of turning the head.

Disappointing Doll - sounds robotic, 25 Feb 2008
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Zapf Creation Baby Annabell Version 4 (Toy)
My daughter has loads of dolls and when this new version came out she just had to have it. what a disappointment. She expected the head to move when she talked to it - she spent ages shouting at it so the head would move towards her. Like other reviews, I agree this eats up batteries. The sucking sounds robotic. It was so bad I took it back to Toys R Us three times to then realise they must all be the same. My daughter loves this doll but I would not recommend. Expensive to maintain and I think is very disappointing overall. The version 3 Annabelle is much better - softer features and sounds better. It does not move its head but you do get a better doll. The version 3 would also be a lot cheaper now.

Zapf Creation Baby Annabell Version 4
A perfect present for my 3 year old granddaughter. I was almost put off by some of the negative reviews but have only praise for this doll. She is just such fun - and even my grandson finds it fun when she burps. Like all modern toys it comes packaged with those awful ties which are impossible to undo quickly. I solved this by undoing them all and putting batteries in ready for use. I then had to try her out - and was completely captivated by her! She survives being force fed several times a day and her batteries seem to be surviving under the strain. The only problem is that her little 22 month cousin wants it too - guess what she's having for her birthday!

Real Baby, 27 Dec 2007
Durability: Fun: Educational:
This review is from: Zapf Creation Baby Annabell Version 4 (Toy)
My five year old daughter and myself went out yesterday with Annabell 4.
Everyone was looking thinking it was a real baby. I do not know what version 3 was like but I do think this a great doll. The movements and the life like motions has kept my daughter amused since Christmas Day.
I recommend this doll highly and will have your little one amused and content for a while.
