A Smooth Review
I have used Silk Epil and Philips epilators previously and I can honestly state this Philips Hp6408 is the best yet. It is compact to use and pain free! The price was good compared to the shops. Hope this helps.

Mixed feelings
I'm 'blessed' with very thick dark hair and sensitive skin on my legs. This is the first epilator I bought, after trying shaving, waxing and various creams, which leave my skin either red and blotchy for DAYS (waxing), with only half the hair gone (creams), or itching - and stubbly the very next day (shaving). I thought I'd try the epilator as well. I didn't expect it to...

Brilliant, 4 Oct 2007
Having read so many reviews (and being new to epilating) I was at a loss as to which one I should purchase and being on a budget I knew I definitely didn't want to fork out £69 on something that could easily be a hit or miss. This product works extremely well and I was pleasantly surprised at how effective it worked on short hair (having shaved less than 2 days before). I was a bit scared at first of the 2 speed setting -fast and really fast!! but I found the faster the device worked the more efficient it became. Yes for some the prickling/tweezering sensation can be a little uncomfortable but I found it no different than plucking my eyebrows and a lot less painful than waxing. Just knowing I don't have to keep shaving every day or so is a blessing in itself. I won't need the 90 day money back I'm keeping mine!!

Mixed feelings, 9 April 2008
I'm 'blessed' with very thick dark hair and sensitive skin on my legs. This is the first epilator I bought, after trying shaving, waxing and various creams, which leave my skin either red and blotchy for DAYS (waxing), with only half the hair gone (creams), or itching - and stubbly the very next day (shaving). I thought I'd try the epilator as well. I didn't expect it to be painless because no method is painless for me. And well, surprise surprise, it did hurt - about the same as waxing, and left my legs equally red and blotchy. The plus was that epilating managed to get rid of shorter hair as well, and I had better control over the whole process (and it's not as messy, of course). It's also great on my arms - here it doesn't hurt, at least, probably because my arms aren't as sensitive and the hair is finer. I can absolutely NOT use it on my underarms though, that's just agony, with blood, even. :( I don't dare use it on my bikini line either.
At first I thought that the pain would go away after a while, because I heard it gets less painful over time, but this is not true in my case. It might feel like it hurts less if you do it regularly, because you probably just get used to it, and there's less hair than the first time. But even after using it on and off for nearly a year, it still hurts like hell, my legs get red and blotchy afterwards and stay that way for more than 16 hours, sometimes over a day even. I guess it's just not the right thing for me. Good for the arms, but that's about it. Don't think I'll be buying another epilator - ever.
After over 10 years of hair removal experience I came to the conclusion that the best thing for thick hair + sensitive skin on legs is a quality men's shaver which provides much closer shave in one stroke than the junk they sell 'designed for women'.

Great!, 31 May 2007
I've tried other epilators and this one is definitely less painful. It's also very efficient - even if the hairs are very short - so you don't have to wait for regrowth as you would with waxing. It is a bit noisy, but if it works, who cares?

Painless!, 5 May 2007
I have always shaved, I tried waxing but it just hurts far too much for me! I have thought about getting an epilator for ages and this seemed like a great offer so I decided to give it a try.
My epilator arrived an hour ago and I have done my legs already. I was shocked by just how little it hurts! It isn't pain, not even discomfort really. It feels prickly, sometimes is a little itchy but there is not any pain to it!
Although it is a little noisy, this really is easy to use and does a great job! I don't think the massaging bit does anything but it doesn't matter anyway! I thought if I bought one I would hate it and then it would end up shoved at the back of a drawer, just a waste of money but no, not at all!
I am ready to throw away my razors! I haven't yet used it under my arms as I shaved them this morning but am not at all scared to use it on them as I can't see it being too painful now, not like I thought it might be anyway!
I really do recommend this epilator, don't be scared of them there really is no need to be!

Brilliant!, 3 May 2007
I started to get annoyed with the endless shaving amd waxing was good but messy and not always as good as one would have liked. So I tried a couple of epilators, and this one is really good. It gets even the small hair out and the the massaging system works like applying pressure to a waxed piece of leg - instantly reduces the pain by a considerable amount. The only disadvantage is that it isn't cordless so a towel or something is requried to catch the hairs once they are removed.

Great Product, 12 Mar 2008
Would definately recommend this epilator. Have never used an epilator before, and assumed it would be similar to waxing, but this one doesn't hurt at all (only tried it on my legs though, assume it wouldn't be quite so painless on thinner skin!)...
In relation to one of the previous reviews though, someone found that this product always left their legs feeling slightly stubbly (and being partly italian, figured it'd probably do the same to me!)...but it left my legs perfectly smooth.
It is a little noisy, but that doesn't matter - well, to me...it drives one of my kittens mad, he gets angry, gives me funny looks and attacks everything in sight every time you put it on :(
All in all a brilliant product, excellent price, and well worth buying! Now to hope it really will last for weeks!

Good results, and only a little ouchyness!" , 8 May 2008
I had been mulling over wether to buy an epilator or not for a while, and after reading the glowing reviews for the Phillips strawberry, I thought why not! and I certainly haven't been dissapointed.
I managed to get it when it was on offer, for £15, which was a bargain indeed! But even at it's normal price of around £25 it's still much better value than most other epilators.
If like me you get fed-up with the tedious constant shaving routine, or having to use messy delipilatory creams and wax treatments, then I definately reccomend that you get this epilator!
It is really simple and easy to use, and best of all it really doesn't hurt that much at all! I found that it only hurts when you attempt to use the epilator on particularly long, or very very short, thick hairs, and even then the pain isn't unbearable.
I use mine on my legs and arms currently, and soon my underarms too. I did try to use it on my bikini line, but that DID hurt! I think I will wait until the hairs grow a bit longer before trying that again.
The only downside with this product is that it doesn't always remove the finer hairs, and so you may have the odd few left that you can't get off.
Apart from this, I thoroughly reccomend the product!

Not Perfect, 20 July 2007
I agree with the other reviewers in that this epilator is not really painful, just a bit of a prickly feeling. However, I find I miss that lovely silky smooth feeling you get after shaving (with a good razor) or using depilatory creams. I'm having to run the epilator over my legs every couple of days and yet even though they look hair free, I can still feel very fine stubble. And as for armpits, well all I can say is it is comparable to the feeling you get when you spray deodorant onto sore armpits after shaving with a dodgy razor! All in all it's OK for day to day but for that lovely silky smooth feeling when you want to feel special, I would still revert to a good razor and a creamy shaving foam.

Not for blondes?, 5 Sep 2006
I'm very blonde and therfore my hair is very fine. I found that this epilator completely missed very fine leg hairs. It worked OK removing armpit hair, however if any pores were slightly raised, it tried to rip them out along with the hair! I am returning it under the Philips 90 day money back guarantee.
