Simple, easy to use beginners mp3 player, 24 Nov 2006
I had to buy an mp3 player for my 10 yr old son. He has learning difficulties, and so he can't set it up himself. I was looking for an mp3 player that didn't need batteries, as his previous mp3 player used them up very quickly, and I haven't been able to convince him that in order to use rechargeable batteries successfully, you must not throw them away when they go flat.
I picked this one for the looks and the lanyard headphones. And because Samsung mp3 players were getting good write ups.
Easy to set up, everything worked as I hoped it would. The installation cd was quick and simple. Rather then install yet another piece of software, I used Windows media player to convert his favourite cd to mp3 format, and then simply copied the files from the pc to the mp3 player using drag and drop in Windows Explorer. The instructions are easy to follow, too.
It has a radio, a clock, a voice recorder and of course it plays mp3 files. All simple to find and set up.
I can't really comment on the sound. I quite like my eardrums intact, so I haven't tried the excessive volume requirements that seem to be standard in today's society. But at the volume I have listened to, the sound is good.
I recommend the purchase of a mains adaptor, as the primary power source is the PC, using the USB cable to draw power to recharge the battery. Great if you always have a pc to hand, but a nuisance at any other time.
I don't know if you can get a 12v car adaptor, but that would be useful too. Otherwise, the battery might run out if away from home for a while, e.g. when camping.

Samsung YP-F1, 11 Nov 2007
I bought this MP3 Player 2yrs ago for when I go out running, and I was very pleased with it. Although it only has a 512mb memory, it was sufficient enough.
I have unfortunately just lost the player with help from my dog, and am now in the process of ordering another one.
Really liked it for how compact and light it was.

Great value for mony & easy to use, 9 Jun 2009
To be honest I was just looking for a cheap MP3 player that I could leave in my car which has a connection for playing an MP3 player.
Having got this player I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to use & set up. All you do is plug in the supplied usb cable & it works just like a memory stick. Just drag & drop your music on to it.
I don't carry CD's around with me in the car now. Has enough room for approx five hours of play so will last for even the longest journeys.
Only down side is the usb connection that connects into the earphone socket. As this is non standard if you loose it your stuck.
