If you used epilator before...
I had one Braun Silk Epil for 10 years. Fortunatelly, it broke down and I had to get a new one. I decided to use the same brand as I was satisfied with it. The new Silk Epil is great! I can't believe it hurts so little to remove your hair nowadays;) It's really quicker than the old one. Now I see that you should change your epilator every few years because they are better...

Noisy but effective!
Having read the positive reviews i think i was expecting miracles; it's good, but not that good! This is the first epilator i've bought so i can't compare with others, but it is very noisy indeed, in fact it leaves my ears ringing after just a few minutes. However it does work pretty well and i think the 'beginners' attachment with fewer tweezers is good for a first time...

Not that I want to share my intimate secrets with the worthy people of the internet community but as somebody who does have slightly more than her fair share of leg hair, if I say that one of these epilators is not that painful, then you can believe me. The secret is that you epilate once a week. Just run the thing over your legs and pick up the stragglers from last week. If you leave a few little shorties it's no big deal because you'll get them next week anyway. Also, if you wax you end up having to wait for the little short hairs to grow long enough for the wax to catch, but with an electric depilator you can keep going back over the same area until you do. The drawbacks are broken hairs and ingrowers but then if you wax or sugar then you have to exfoliate at least once a week anyway, so this is no different in that department. Whatever. Personally speaking, I'd rather spend half an hour a week with one of these than once a month spending an hour and a half slaving over a pot of hot sugar and messy strips, no? And as for the bikini line, then yes, but please be extremely careful. You know what I'm saying here. If shaving is not an option for you, then you may as well have one of these.

I tried this as it was cheap and the only person I knew that had tried epilation had told me how painful it was. Not true!! It isn't pain-free, but if you can handle waxing, you can handle this. I actually find it less painful without the attachment that is meant to make it easier (the massaging rollers clip) - go straight in with the Effieciency-Pro clip on top speed.
The worst discomfort for me is afterwards, my skin does itch and burn for a while, but I think if I can find a decent cooling moisturiser this won't be a problem.
I am so pleased to have found an alternative to the short-lasting results and bad skin you get with shaving, the mess you get with cream and home waxing, and the time consuming cost of having a professional wax. If you are in doubt, I would say go for it!

Fantastic, 24 Jun 2008
Wow, this is my first epilady and it is Brilliant less painful than having your legs waxed. Have done my underarms with it and was fine not yet done the bikini line yet but will be trying soon. Need a bit more courage for that. Worth every penny.

Excellent product!, 26 July 2008
I have used epilators since they first came out and they have really come on. It used to take ages to do my legs and they hurt like you wouldn't believe. This epilator takes no time at all and leaves your legs hair free. It also doesn't hurt. It has the bonus of a shaver head if you need it. It's a great price. Well worth the money.

I bought this expecting it to hurt a lot as many other reviews have stated. As I'm new to epilating and have never tried shaving I was pretty scared.
I tried it in the evening to give any redness time to dissappear over night. I'm very happy with how little pain there is, it just feels pinchy and kinda tickly. I tried it again the next night and the pain was virtually gone, just the slight tingle.
The main thing that put me off trying it in the first place once it arrived was the noise it made...although not much to complain about otherwise.
Overall I would certainly reccomend this product as it's easy to use and also comes with a shaver giving you the choice.

I'd never tried epilating before as it sounded too painful but after going through childbirth, 3 times, I thought it was time to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised to find it doesn't hurt! The sensation was more like getting lots of mini static shocks. You can tell they are there but it doesn't make your eyes water. I did have to gently grit my teeth on a few sensitive skin areas but it wasn't ouch worthy.
It's less painful than using tweezers which I think is down to the fast rotating speed and the two bars of massaging slightly sharp beads which confuse your pain receptors. I tentatively used the slower speed but the fast speed wasn't painful either and got the job done a lot quicker.
I did get a red spotty rash for the best part of a day after using it which was completely faded by the next day. Unlike shaving though it means I can't immediately bare my legs without looking like I've got something infectious. A huge benefit is not getting shaving nicks and the epilator didn't cause any reaction or damage to my existing scars which will hopefully be a thing of the past!
My epilator came in pink rather than the purple in the photo and looks great (much better than the photo). It was also very nicely presented in a large plastic case which although very difficult to rip open did make it quality gift giving packaging. It comes with a long power cord (approx 233cm) attached to a three prong plug. There is also an instruction manual and a small cleaning brush.
This epilator can only be used with the power cord which restricts where you can use it. You also need to be in bright daylight to make sure you can see and catch all the hairs. It took me about 5 passes to catch some hairs which made it more time consuming than shaving but the effects last much longer.
The shaver comes with two main attachments - an epilating one with removable rolling bars and a shaving one. I did have to use the shaving one as although the epilator caught all my visible dark hairs my legs still weren't 100% smooth to the touch. Fine to look at but if you want the feeling of completely smooth legs then a quick minute go over with the separate shaver attachment is a must.
I was very impressed with the build quality and the attachments are easy to change and clean.
Recommended for first time epilators and those that don't mind the restrictions of a cord or not being able to use in it water. I think I'll be putting an all singing and dancing cordless epilator which can be used in water on my Christmas list and keeping this one as a spare.
At the current bargain price there is nothing to lose! Try it!

wow! how amazing! wished i got one years ago, 1 July 2008
i was a bit worried about using one of these epilators, as everyone kept telling me how painful they were. but thought there's got to be an easier way than waxing all the time and there is the braun epil soft. i wish i had one years ago,its amazing, does not hurt, no pain. thought i would just go for it. did my legs, bikini line and underarms. bit sensitive under the armpits. hardly any red reaction lasted about and hour if that. waxing the redness used to last all day. i am so pleased with this item, its well worth everypenny. fast delivery aswell. gone are my waxing days yipppee

This is the first epilator I have used, and my experience has been a pleasent one. Yes it DOES hurt on the first go. But once you done that, the hair grows back finer, and it doesn't hurt at all. My only issue with this, is that I don't get a smooth finish. I still have stubble, but this can be removed with a razor. The hair takes a while to grow back. I use this on my bikini line also, and yes it does hurt first time round. But it doesn't hurt, as much, second time round. The shaver head is amazing. Probably one of the best electric shavers I have used. The epilator is very noisy, so you can't get away with descrete hair removal!
