4.0 out of 5 stars Another great Christmas Now CD
To add to your collection!

Once again, we get the end of year "Now" CD being a real winner with some of the biggest hits of the year. CD 1 contains all the latest and greatest hits, including the mammoth #1's from the Black Eyed Pea's, Beyonce, Kylie, Fatman Scope and the Sugababes. As usual, all the big pop tracks from the last few months make up the rest of the first...

1.0 out of 5 stars Now Thats What I call Rubbish
The Now collections appear to be deteriorating at a rapid level.

Once a euphoria of popular and ground-breaking music it appears to have sunk to the levels of bubble gum picture perfect pop.

A few pearls remain here, but overall its a bit dismal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great Christmas Now CD, 27 Nov 2003
To add to your collection!

Once again, we get the end of year "Now" CD being a real winner with some of the biggest hits of the year. CD 1 contains all the latest and greatest hits, including the mammoth #1's from the Black Eyed Pea's, Beyonce, Kylie, Fatman Scope and the Sugababes. As usual, all the big pop tracks from the last few months make up the rest of the first part of the disc, with stand outs being Rachel Steven's "Sweet Dreams My L.A. Ex" and Liberty X's "Jumpin'". The rest of Disc One is mainly a mixture of reasonable sized chart hits, including many winners like Stacie Orrico, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Emma and Javine. Overall, a solid showing of the biggest hits from the last three months, plus a good, strong mixture of the latest pop songs to touch the chart, none of which are outstandingly horrible or offensive for once!

CD 2, as per usual, takes on a more varied approach, mixing dance, rock, r&b and alternative to give a less appealling, but more eclectic listen. Elton is here, as are some catchy cross-over hits from Justin and Robbie. The r&b is quite good qith Ashanti and 50 Cent being both surprisingly good. The dance tracks aren't bad, either, with Lisa Scott Lee being my personal favourite out of the bunch. Not as good as CD 1, but fine for a mixture to put on "random" and have going in the background to hear a wide range of tunes.

Overall, if you want a mixture of the latest hits that you would have heard on the radio or seen on the TV, you can't go past Now 56, which comes up trumps yet again.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is fab!!, 17 Nov 2003
I bought this album today - not on the strength of the reviews featured on here (!), but on the strength of the tracks featured. In my opinion this is one of the best NOW compilations. It features both recent best sellers killer tracks like Beyoncé's 'Crazy In Love' and Elton's 'Are you ready?' and also good tracks which are currently in the charts, Kylie's 'Slow', Blue's 'Guilty', Sugababes' 'Hole in the Head' etc. There are no obscure tracks or ones which didn't dent the charts, and I appreciate the variety of pop styles featured: pure UK pop (Rachel Stevens, Lemar, Emma, Girls Aloud etc) and trendy American pop (Amy Studt, Ashanti, Justin Timberlake etc) and the greatly adored 'Busted' and America's coolest rapper 50 Cent. The second CD closes with some serious pop/rock sounds ( Starsailor, Stereophonics etc) and the last track is amazing - a new version of Tears for Fears' 'Mad World' which I remember first time round (1982!)- this version is completely different from the original and it is truly inspirational. This NOW compilation is, in my opinion, fantastic - the variety of pop musical styles is great, the sequencing is fab, the songs fit together to make for a nice package. On the down side - the Fatman Scoop 'song' is truly awful and demands a quick forwarding when it comes on, and the lame 'Swing Low' by UB40 could have been omitted- it's hardly their best song, is it? Well, one shouldn't complain, CD 1 lasts for 79 mins - this is the longest CD I know! - and given most tracks are good ones, three cheers for NOW!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing, but overall very enjoyable, 14 Nov 2003
This New now CD suprised me!
Usually they have many old songs on them, and about two early releases.

But this one is great! It has many Number ones, Eg. Sugababes (Hole in The Head), Kylie (Slow), Fatman Scoop FT. Crooklyn Clan (Be faithful) and the black eyed peas top tune Where is the love?

Containing a few stinkers, (S club 8 etc.) it is very good for parties. With early release of javine's single surrender (your love) which many people may be happy about. Many good dance songs and sing-a-longs which is a good reason to buy it (Jamelia, Daniel bedingfield, Amy Studt).

It is suitable for anyone, containing pop (s club 8,sundown) rock (nickleback, someday)rap (Fatman scoop,be faithful) even an oldie! (Elton John, are you ready for love?!)
Bad Point: Some old songs (justin, stacie orrico, lumidee etc.)

but well worth the money and one of the best so far, Now 56 is good quailty and a perfect X-mas present!

5.0 out of 5 stars After a couple of duff releases, NOW 56 is a stonker, 11 Nov 2003
The last couple of NOW… compilations have been a bit naff to say the least, which may be something to do with the poor quality of the music in the charts. But, with tracks from most of today's newest stars, like Javine, Black Eye Peas and ex-S Clubber Rachel Stevens, NOW 56 would be a welcome to anyone's stocking at Christmas. There are, of course, a few turkeys (Emma Bunton, S Club 8 and Lisa Scott-Lee) but, overall, it's a stonker.

4.0 out of 5 stars An awful good compilation put together, 2 Dec 2003
By A Customer
Well, of course, NOW has been around forever. Out of all of them there have been a few misses (48,49,50) and a few hits (47,53,55). 56 should sure be added to the hits. It has pretty much every song you've heard in the past 4 months or so (except Will Young, Gareth and the Darkness). The only bad part is that some of the songs on here could have been updated by newer, more recent hits. For example Busted's Sleeping With The Light On is long forgotten by now, but Crashed The Wedding is the current single. I do give NOW credit though because they can't predict the future hits. But other than that, this is one massive set.
CD1: We start out with the Black Eyed Peas (yawn, I'm bored.) and Rachel Stevens (kinda old) and Kylie (hey! new stuff!). It is a lukewarm start. Blue's Guilty is behind there and then some hip hop stuff is thrown in there, of course the good (Beyonce, Jamelia, Lumidee, Sugababes) and the not so good (Fatman Scoop, Liberty X, Javine). Then you always have to have that bubblegum on a NOW. So here we have stinkers (Sophie Ellis-Bextor, DSide, Phixx) and some pretty good stompers (S Club 8, Emma, Ultrabeat, Louise) and then the OK crowd (Girls Aloud, Atomic Kitten). Now Disc 2!
CD2: Disc two starts of with a KABAAM!!!!! Are You Ready For Love is a really great song, and how could it be held back that long? Then we have old Justin and Robbie and Nickelback and Busted and Mark Owen songs (phew! blah). Next we come upon Amy Studt, which I'm not sure if this song is even considered a hit, and Texas, see Amy Studt. Now we have hip hop again, 50 Cent (yah!) and Ashanti (even though its old, it brings out some brightness). On a doubledisc, you always are left with junk. Well Lisa Scott Lee isn't bad, but the following (aka Angel City/Lara McAllen, Richard X/Kelis, Rishi Rich, Ub40, Starsailor and Stereophonics) are awful! The endnote is Daniel Bedingfield's Never Gonna Leave Your Side, which is a heartfelt ballad and that Mad World remake. Everyone says that its so wonderful, but it has yet to grow on me. So you see that there is always junk, but always good that comes out of it. So buy this NOW and see if you enjoy it. As for me, I thought it was just fine but maybe couldve used some work.
