5.0 out of 5 stars I need all the Help I can get!
As a mother of three and a husband who works away any help at all is appreciated. I love the netmums website and eagerly awaited this second book by them (their cook book is ace as well). The book delivered all that it promised and not only has proved a useful and thoughtful insight into parenting, it is also written in an easy to understand, fun style that should...

1.0 out of 5 stars A poor excuse for a book......
I have a one year old son and bought this book to see if it could give me any ideas to deal with issues. To be fair to the authors I havent read the book in its entirety but what I have read I have found to be wholely inacurrate and sheer drivel. It refutes any sort of routine and writes that any parent using the "shout it out" method of sleep training is at the end of...

I have just finished this book and found it helpful. It gives you ways and tips how to maximise your enjoyment of your children without getting bogged down with all the menial tasks and house work etc. It was also great to hear that your not the only one who has bad days!!

3.0 out of 5 stars How to be a Happy Mum, 22 Jun 2009

Over all it's a good read, a tiny bit patronising in places but reading some of the case stories written by other mums was reassuring. Lets just say if my local library had it, I probably wouldn't have bought this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Highly recommended, 30 Mar 2009
By Love_to_read (Cambridge) - See all my reviews
I love this book! It's the most helpful and accurate self-help parenting book I have come across so far! It seems to address all of the problems/issues with realistic suggestions and solutions.. it's good to see other parents' perspectives and viewpoints as well as made me feel less isolated. I'm sure myself and my son will benefit from the book and every time I feel a 'down' day coming up I'll be sure to reread!!
Highly recommended!

1.0 out of 5 stars A poor excuse for a book......, 4 Feb 2009
I have a one year old son and bought this book to see if it could give me any ideas to deal with issues. To be fair to the authors I havent read the book in its entirety but what I have read I have found to be wholely inacurrate and sheer drivel. It refutes any sort of routine and writes that any parent using the "shout it out" method of sleep training is at the end of their tether and is basically using tactics that would be outlawed in Guantanimo Bay! The authors also push the idea of using a dummy to stop a child from crying. This does not work unless you are happy to get up ever 15 minutes to put it back in. And any dentist in the UK would confirm that a dummy is bad for teeth and speech development, not to mention that its truely revolting. The books seems to advocate a relaxed and structure free form of parenting and as we now live in a wolrd where children and teenagers have little respect for their parents let alone any other grown ups, I feel this is not the way forward.

The best baby books Ive found are by a woman named Rachel Waddilove, she is straight forward, to the point and beleives that giving a child a routine and boundaries are the way to a happy child. I can personally vouch for her methods and have a very relaxed and calm little boy.

Buy this book if you will but be prepared for grizzly unhappy toddlers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bought for my daughter, 27 Jan 2009

I bought this book for my daughter after reading the excellent reviews on Netmums. She's in the process of reading it and says that it's very informative and a good read. She says it's put her mind at rest about a lot of things that she wasn't sure about or was doing and would recommend it to other mums. She has 2 children, 20 months and 4 months.
Oops meant to give it 5 stars but am unable to change it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's my bible !!, 14 Oct 2008
I bought this book months ago when i was having a 'down' day. It really cheered me up, made me feel like i wasn't the only one feeling like motherhood was a neverending chore. It is full of practical advice, i keep it by the bed and dip into it time and time again to read relevant chapters. Thanks netmums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, informative, fun and full of useful advice!, 5 Jun 2008
I bought this book to try and recapture a bit of happiness and stress-less existence for myself before it's too late. With three children under four stress is my middle name. This is full of really useful suggestions, advice, anecdotes from other mums etc - strategies for dealing with badly behaved children, relationship troubles, work pressures, housework crises and losing yourself into the big mum hole. I really can't recommend this book enough for sensible, practical, down to earth advice. And it's really nice to know you're not the only mum who feels like she's not coping!

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest writing about being a mum, 8 May 2008
By H. Harrison (Worcestershire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is fantastic! It's describes what motherhood is really like - acknowledging that children are a great blessing, but that they can also try your patience and sometimes drive you to distraction! It's about how to cope - with everything from the children's bad behaviour, to organising your home, and (perhaps most importantly) some sound advice for when you get that sinking feeling. It's written by people who really understand what it's like to be a mother. And the quotes from the netmums.com website add that touch of realism, acknowledging the fact that you're not alone in how you feel. I can't recommend this book highly enough!
