Possibly the worst book I have ever read!,
This review is from: Dragon (Paperback)This book could not be more cheesey if it was printed on thinly sliced cheddar. I actually had to put the book down after the author introduced a cameo character with his own name. What a shocker. If you want action and adventure, read The Death Zone by Matt Dickinson or The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger. DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS. The Death Zone: Climbing Everest Through the Killer StormThe Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men Against the Sea (Stranger Than...)

Actually this reviewer could not be more right. Clive Cussler can create reasonable start-points for his novels, his nautical achievements are rightly renowned, but his Dirk Pitt novels? They are full of cliches, sexist caricatures and this one - in its protrayal of the Japanese - borders on some very dubious racial stereotyping. I am afraid his charms as an action novelist are way over-rated. As for putting himself in the book as minor character? That is terrible. A stinker to be avoided.
