This review is from: Glenn Gould: The Schwarzkopf Tapes (Audio CD)
Gould and Schwarzkopf kick off with some Strauss songs. There's no chemistry between them, each seems to be trying to ignore the other, and Gould's humming is sometimes louder than Schwartzkop's singing. Gould then gives a one man performance of Strauss' Burleske, bellowing out the orchestral part whilst giving a pretty amazing performance of the piano part. He then plays it with an orchestra, very well indeed, and they end with more Strauss, much as they began. Why Gould and Schwartzkopf collaborated I don't know, as neither seems to enjoy it very much, but it's worth hearing them. Gould on his own is great.
