Not the fastest hard drive, but faster than Samsung M3,
This review is from: Buffalo HD-PNT1.0U3B-EU 1TB MiniStation Plus USB 3.0 2.5 Inch External Hard Drive - Black (Accessory)
I've only just started to use this drive, but I have had a little trouble with it.
For a start the supplied fast-copy software isn't very good. I kept on getting IO errors.
I've since found this sometimes occurs on files that contain ~ in their name.
For unknown reasons I was sometimes (not all the time) not able to copy over a file (which has ~ in its name) from another USB drive to this new drive.
I kept on getting asked do I want to overwrite a different file on the disk with a different name to the one I was copying across.
Also the average transfer rate for this drive is 65MB/s (500 files totaling 70GB) when windows disk caching is enabled. I know that 100-120MB/s is possible through my USB3 interface when an external device is sending data to my internal SATA drive and so I don't believe my PC is to blame. I'm guessing the hardware encryption could be slowing the transfer down.
Update: 24 May: I've tried a 2TB Samsung M3 hard-drive and only getting 50MB/s when unencrypted. So clearly this drive is faster.
