Close To The Edge is a favourite of mine in the large catalogue of albums from the band Yes.
What I have always liked about Close To The Edge is the busy drumming by Bill Bruford and the beautiful singing from Jon Anderson, especially during the section of " I Get Up, I Get Down"
It has been an album I have played often over the past 3 or 4 decades.
This 2013 BluRay and CD edition is apparently the first of a series of Yes re-mixes that Steven Wilson has done.
After playing the 5.1 mix I was not completely blown away as i was expecting, the songs sound very different and have a different feel with the vocals and instrumentation spread out over 4 or 5 speakers rather than 2.
Over the past few years I have experienced many great 5.1 mix music and have loved them. This is a great mix in 5.1 but maybe because I am so used to the stereo mix I am finding it hard to appreciate it as much as usual.
What really did impress me this time is the Flat Transfer of the original mix in stereo. It sounds incredible !
The Wilson stereo mix is also great but I am very attached to the original stereo mix in a higher resolution.
The original mix was a testament to the original producers and still holds a lot of power and respect to me on this occasion. I am certain that later albums will be improved by Steven Wilson far more than this album has, Relayer has suffered from poor sound and will benefit from a remix.
