5 stars but...,
This review is from: Skins - Season 1 - 4 [DVD] (DVD)I'm to lazy to write four reviews so I'm giving this five stars even though not all series deserve it IMO...
I love the first generation (the second series is by far the best of all four). There isn't one character that I don't care about, even if Chris, Cassie and Sid are my favourites I still find the others intresting and they all have a place. I also like the group feeling of them all.
The second generation on the other hand have some problems. The writing isn't bad, but not as good and there are some characters I can live without. Take Cook for example. I've seen Jack O'Connell act before and he's great (probably the best actor in the second generation) BUT Cook is annoying. Unlike Chris who was a bit crazy and party mad too, Cook isn't funny or likable in any way. Which is sad beacuse I like Jack. I find Pandora and Naomi to be the most intresting and in all, the girls are a lot better than the boys in this generation. The group feeling is completly gone... It doesn't feel like anyone really cares for their so called friends.
So I give this five for the first two series, though the third and fourth problaby deserve a three and a half and thats mostly for the girls.

I agree that it doesn't feel like the group cares about each other. I liked that aspect of the first generation, even though overall I care about the second generation more-- the teenagers feel more realistic and less like caricatures. The group dynamic is lost because the 2nd generation begins with the kids meeting each other at the first day of college instead of being an established gang. So while they may all hang out together, a challenge the writers struggled with when finding situations where it would be logical, it's more like a collection of friendships. In fact, I feel that this is probably the more realistic scenario for most viewers-- in school I had certain friends in my group that I was very close with, others I merely tolerated, and some I just couldn't stand even though my friends enjoyed them. I can't wait to see what the dynamic is like in the 5th and 6th series! Especially with Dakota Blue Richards....
