Rock Godz Recycled,
This review is from: Rock Godz (Audio CD)
Let me begin by saying there is some very respectable music on here. But as with so many compilations of this type the tracks tend to fall into three categories
1. Overused. "Paranoid", "Ace Of Spades", "All Right Now" and "Since You Been Gone" have all surely racked up Compilation appearances into three figures by now.
2. Out Of Place. REO Speedwaggon and Toto both managed much rockier tracks than the ones on display here ("Keep On Loving You" and "Rosanna" respectively. Both of which fit into the Overused category too.) And the thrash-metal Anthrax track sits uneasily amongst its neighbours.
3. Worth getting the CD for. Here we have a few pleasant surprises ( A Diamondhead track that isn't "Am I Evil", Autograph, The Almighty) and even token attempts to bring things into more recent territory ("Word Up" and "I Believe in a Thing Called Love")
And there you have the reason this CD exists. With The Darkness reviving interest in the cranked up Gibson various record companies are digging through their vaults to see what they can cash in with.
The individual tracks on here are respectable and this would be a good introduction to the world of Hard Rock but if there is a vol 2 can we have some slightly less predictable tracklistings please?
