A Goldberg on Organ!,
This review is from: Bach: Goldberg Variations (Audio CD)
Well, in a way, the Goldberg Variations are lullaby music, as a friend of mine said and this is in a sense quite true. Although more refined, I might say.
I approached this with a delight, that was, unexpectedly beholden to this listeners ear. Every variation is played with crystal clarity, which has matched the quality of the recorded sound of this recording as well. Which brings us to the instrument used by Mr Costin, the organist on this recording. The organ is a rather gorgeous sounding chapel organ, made by the organ builders Manders(or rather restored by them). Mr Costin uses this organ to great effect in this recording. Using a wide variety of the sounds that this organ can produce!
Altogether, a very enjoyable recording here, and from Stone Records, I hope that Mr Costin will make further recordings by this company.
