an unforgettable story,
This review is from: Book of Love (Paperback)
A gripping story, a rich tapestry of sixteenth Century Italien history, full of powerful, passionate characters and a literary feast for the senses, this is one of the best historical novels I've ever read.
Esther (called Volante) converts from Judaism and becomes a lady in waiting to Luicrezia Borgia. She falls in love with Cesare and embarks on a life of danger, betrayal, and political maneouvering.I won't say more, because I hope everyone will read it and and have the same thrill of discovery I experienced from page one. Esther is a wonderful character - never the passive heroine, she is constantly alive, intelligent, and active. Every page of this book is overflowing with the colours, textures, sounds, smells and tastes of real life. When I finished I felt I had returned from a journey into another world.
