Simple but effective,
This review is from: Majesty 2 (PC DVD) (DVD-ROM)The simplicity of this game is where it scores. You concentrate on building an army of 'heroes' who then gallavant off around the map and fulfill your objectives. The game falls somewhere between RPG and RTS, but is far more simplified than both, but the levelling up and the desire to see new features (the game gradually introduces new characters and equipment the further you get) is key. You can complete the early missions in 30 minutes to an hour an a half, I am about half way through the game now and it is getting steadily more challenging. I suspect the later levels are quite an effort.
The game can feel a little underwhelming at times, early missions can be beaten simply by just getting as many trading caravans as you can, and spending all your money, but it scores for me as it's a blast to play, and I love the feature where you can bring back heroes from previous levels, they maintain their skills and equipment, and can be a real difference maker when the going gets tough.
The graphics and sounds are solid, and the game overall is a great tribute to the original Majesty. This is not a game for those that micromanage, but for others there is much to enjoy here.
