Another classic from Milward,
This review is from: Ten Storey Love Song (Paperback)
I thought Apples was great but so many authors have struggled with their subsequent novels after stella debuts (Zadie Smith, Kate Atkinson). Milward doesn't disappoint; he sticks to his knitting by locating the book in Middlesbrough again and really brings the tower block where it is set to life (if you can call it life): dole, drink, violence, horrendous garage music. This is great writing and he manages to tie the ends up neatly so you get a satisfying and mainly upbeat conclusion. Despite being wrtten in one paragraph this book is really easy to read and once you start you can't stop; if you don't finish this in under 24 hours of starting it you must be a narcoleptic. Pure class.
