Disappointing and irritating style,
By A Customer
This review is from: Flatterland: Like Flatland, Only More So (Hardcover)
Flatland by Edwin Abbott is fantastic - you absolutely MUST read this mind expanding book first. This sequel tries way too hard to follow Abbott's chatty style but misses in what I found to be an incredibly irritating way. Very disappointing as I am sure that the intentions behind this book were all good in updating Flatland with current scientific understanding. I am in no way detracting from the content, but the style may well prevent you from getting through Stewart's book. Possibly a popular science book too far!

I cannot agree more with this review. I expected much more from this book but I also became irritated with the style, specially from the Space Hopper, which I think is a detestable character. Interesting characters should display emotions or conflicts and change through the story. Here there is no story, no conflicts except for Vikki trying to calm her family and kidnapper Space Hopper not allowing her to do it. The beginning is engaging, as well as the last chapter, but the rest is not. I would add that I expected much more focus on SPATIAL dimensions. Apart from the style, this is what disappointed me most.
