This review is from: Facing Up: A Remarkable Journey to the Summit of Mount Everest (Paperback)
If you like Bear Grylls and the outdoors you'll love this book. Its well written and informative without being too condescending for those that know little about climbing.
I read this in less than a week. The writing style encourages you to carry on and see how Bear gets on and what happens next. He takes you through the ups and downs of the expedition and pulls few punches. It does not purely glamorise mountaineering but gives some insight to the dangers/pitfalls & sacrifices those people face in achieving their goal atop Everest.
Having enjoyed the Everst Beyond Limits series on Tv I bought this book to get a climbers personal view. Bear gives this and more by relating tales of the team with him & the hardships the sherpas face on a daily basis just to get their charges up and down the mountain.
This is a good read - thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. If you want a more technical climbers book then look elsewhere.
