Nice Little Gadget,
This review is from: Iomega ScreenPlay USB2.0/AV/HDMI TV Link Director Media Player (Personal Computers)
I've had the TV Link Media Player for nearly 2 years now, and it is handy unit. Especially if like me, you have an older TV, as they provide the choice of using HDMI, RCA Video, or a SCART/RCA adapter.
Initial problems I had were with directly plugging a USB Drive in - it would create various file-errors, and occasionally files would totally disappear, which was a tad disconcerting.
That was solved when I bought a Router, and connected it via the Network, and the whole thing comes alive then. In my case, I have a USB Drive connected to my router, but any shared folder, or drive on a PC will be accessible - even if it is connected via USB. That said, I did try doing the same with a Windows 7 Machine, and it requested a password and user-name, even though neither had been set, but I dare say there is a solution to that.
There are a couple of negative issues though. For a start, the handy little feature of resuming a video from the last point you watched it only works when the Video is on a drive plugged directly into the Player.
Also, the last firmware update was in early 2011. Sadly, since then Youtube have change their set-up, and iomega has yet to update accordingly. As a result, it is no longer possible to watch Youtube Videos. And for me, other than perhaps being able to download torrents, the rest of the "Online" features are next to useless.
But if you just want to have a simple way to Watch/Listen to, your PC Media Library, and don't have a Modern TV, with HDMI and of course either a USB Port or Network Connectivity, it is a very handy machine. Despite the little irritations, I still give it a 5.
