3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting CD recorded following the departure of Peter Green, 30 July 2013
This review is from: Madison Blues (Audio CD)
This is an interesting CD recorded after the departure of Peter Green, although the group had originally considered splitting up they decided to continue and recruited Christine Perfect (McVie) to replace Green. The record begins with 9 studio tracks with the band trying to find a sound that incorporates the disparate talents of Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan and Christine Mcvie - you can hear echoes of the West Coast sound that would be the future of Fleetwood Mac in songs like "Gone into the sun" and also Christine developing her trademark smokey vocals. Elsewhere Jeremy looks back to the blues, rock and roll and country for inspiration and on songs like "One together" he manages to forge something new and original from these roots. The rest of the album comprises live tracks, many of which later featured on the LP 'Kiln House' and are duplicated on the Secret Records album 'Preaching the blues'. The sound is relatively good, probably a soundboard recording but the repertoire is a bit of a dogs breakfast with Jeremy's old material and new tracks still being worked on.

I think that you can hear the promise in some of these songs and I'm sure that the next album would have been a cracker with all the different influences coming together but sadly shortly after this Jeremy left to join the Children of God and the band began a couple of years of changing membership. This is of interest to real fans but I think that for casual listeners the 'Kiln House' album with its better sound is a much better way of remembering this line up of the band.
