This review is from: Quadrophenia - Live In London (Audio CD)
'Quadrophenia' remains, for me, the Who's best album. It was a project that worked for Pete Townshend and the band, although he apparently was not entirely satisfied with the end result when it was first released way back in 1973. The various remasters culminating in the superb deluxe edition released in 2011 have served to enhance the album's reputation. Here we have the latest live rendition in London of this masterpiece and I have to say it's magnificent. Daltrey's vocals are still ace and Townshend weaves in fantastic guitar playing, harmonies, and takes lead vocals effortlessly in what is a rock masterclass. '5:15' is just storming!! The audience appreciation speaks for itself - enthusiastic, encouraging, enervating. This band have lost none of their drive, energy, enthusiasm or professionalism over the years despite losing Moon and Entwistle and they are on top form here. The music of 'Quadrophenia' will stand the test of time and it's a real pleasure to hear the whole album live. The gig also includes, amongst others, superb versions of the Who classics 'Pinball Wizard', 'Baba O'Riley', and 'Won't Get Fooled Again'. Buy it, crank it up and marvel at the one, the only, the Who! Highly, highly recommended.
