An excellent story,

This review is from: Karol - A Man Who Became Pope [DVD] (DVD)
The story protrayed in this film is excellent. It sheds light on a person so important to faith and history. While I am facsinated with the content itself, some parts of the film let it down. Mainly due to the poor quality graphics and some poor acting (and scriptwriting I might add) in areas mean this film shall not be remembered for its literary merit - which is why I can only award it 3 stars.
Those interested in the person and papacy of John Paul II should perchase it, and it should also be in the DVD/Video library of any devout Catholic. However, those not interested in such topics should avoid this film, as they are not likely to enjoy it.

JIMBO (Dublin,) says:
I disagree with S. Davies total view of this film, however everyone is entitled to their opinion, my own view is it was excellent T.V. viewing considering the budget upon which it was made and the main actors (most of them Polish) did a fine job. Telling the harrowing story of John Paul II life in Poland during World War II and his eventual rise to become Pope. As to whether other people would not enjoy this film I would certainly disagree. It is not a story of the Papacy. It had intrigue, adventure and even romance. The Papacy only comes forth at the end of the film. a great film for all the family if you are interested in history at all. Better again watch out for Karol - 'The Man The Pope' another three hour movie which takes us through his Papacy and death. Whatever your Faith, this film is inspiring and an example to us all as to how we should react to each other as human beings.
