A light hearted gem from an era when Rock began to take itself too seriously.,
This review is from: Ogdens Nut Gone Flake (Audio CD)
Although there were many great albums released in the late sixties, it is also the era of Rock N Roll wanting to be taken seriously as an art form. The Beatles went from being 4 cheeky chappy scousers to 4 boring self obsessed individuals.
Only a few albums from 67/68 stand out as remembering how fun and accessible Rock can be... For example The Kinks are the village green preservation society, The Who Sell out, anything from the Bonzo's and the Small faces: Ogdens Nut Gone Flake.
The album is great from the instrumental start through the Cockney joking of Rene and Lazy Sunday through to the 6 song cycle of Happiness Stan, brilliantly narrated by Stanley Unwin.
It especially stands out today in an industry that celebrates the Bland and untalented.
