5.0 out of 5 stars Take a Leap of Faith and buy this wonderful record..., 18 Sep 2009
This review is from: Leap Of Faith (Audio CD)
This is a really good record! Texas-based Walker works similar territory to Van Morrison and James Hunter, jazz and blues-based original songs delivered with a wonderful laid-back, soul-drenched voice and he also plays nice blues lead guitar. This is a very varied CD, not as straight blues as his previous 2007 release 'Seth Walker' and containing nods to jazz, rock and roll, R&B and country.

We get off to a great start with the up-tempo blues "Can't come with you", followed by the very catchy Sam Cooke-ish "Rewind" The title track keeps up this high-quality and showcases Seth playing some nice B.B. King-style blues guitar and we also get a nice version of the old Percy Mayfield R&B song "Memory pain". "Lately I've let things slide" by Nick Lowe is another really nice song, a poignant soul-tinged country ballad with nice steel guitar. "Lay down (river of faith)" is one of the best songs I've heard for years- a wonderful bluesy ballad with a fabulous totally original arrangement featuring organ and acoustic slide guitar. Walker also shows his versatility with the cheesy string-laden torch song "I got a song", the funky "I don't dance", the Chuck Berry-style rocker "Something fast" and the fantastic late-night ballad "Falling out of love".

I can't recommend this record enough, it's well played, well-produced, has lots of wonderful songs and although it's firmly rooted in blues and jazz it also seems very accessible and commercial. I guess Seth Walker is just a regional act in the States but I can't imagine that there will be many better records released this year.
