Absolutely Brilliant, Never laughed so much.,
This review is from: Out of Towners [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)This film, is, without doubt, one of the funniest films your ever likely to see, and my all time favourite. it is absolutely flawlessly brilliant. I cant recommend it highly enough. It leaves so many so called comedies far back in the shade, and nothing much even comes close. It really doesn't come much better than this. and is a must buy.
This is a fast paced comedy, with so many twists and turns it will make you dizzy. a great story, with laughs from start to finish.
Written by genius playwright, 'NEIL SIMON,' ( The odd couple/ the sunshine boys) ect. how he comes up with such great original comedy, I kept asking myself throughout the film.
The story is of a couple, the 'Kellermans', superbly acted by, the ever nuerotic, Jack Lemmon', and his dizzy long suffering wife, played by 'Sandy Dennis'. The Kellermans, from suburban Twin Oaks Ohio, plan, is to travel to NewYork as mr Kellerman has an interview appointment, with promotion prospects. Sounds simple?. far from it. and I thought I had problems. As everything on the journy goes wrong.
Hold tight to your seatbelts folks, and prepair for a whirlwind ride, of pure, hilarious mayhem, and, catastrophe, that pushes the boundaries of human endurance for the poor frustrated, ill fated Kellermans, when, they are subjected to,everything from losing their Luggage. catching the wrong train, being mugged, caught in the rain, and, being involved in an anti Cuban riot, amongst other highly stressful but, hilarious situations.
I know its only a story, but, the acting is so good, I started to feel the anx and fustration, with all the mishaps myself, that would have left me reaching for a tranquilizer if id had any.
My best bits, were when Jack Lemmon reaches for his pen and notebook from his pocket, taking everyones names and frettening to take legal action with everyone he meets. the Cuban riot scene, and, Central park where they have to sleep rough.
Watch out for the beautiful air stewardess at the start of the film, played by, Geraldine Page.
I have to agree with my fellow reviewer, although I'm a Steve Martin fan, the remake isn't as good. and in my opinion, doesn't come anywhere near, or, is as funny as the original, being pure comic genius and in a class of its own.
I defy anyone, not to laugh and enjoy this movie. Its one youll watch again and again, and it will make you smile every time you think about it.
The film is in colour, and was made in 1970. Directed by, Arthur Hiller.
So, will our intrepid travellers, ever get to the big apple, and make it to the interview on time?.you'll have to buy it and see.I guarantee you won't be disappointed. So, relax and enjoy, a real comedy, timeless classic.
