Missed opportunity - 40th Anniversary issue CD.,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Audio CD)
For me, this album is not perfect, having some slightly ordinary tracks, but balanced by a worthwhile clutch of all time classics - still an album I would hate not to have though. As with many double albums, it would have made a utterly faultless single album. The 40th anniversary re-packaging and re-master seems a bit patchy too in that the remaster quality does improve on the old version, (I have also bought the vinyl, and that too is better - also no pretense at fancy packaging, just remastered on decent vinyl for a reasonable cost), but the presentation and extras of this CD/DVD set are a little disappointing. I was surprised to find the disc of covers by other artists quite interesting, despite being put off by recent Elton John covers (Ellie Goulding's version of "Your Song" for example), but the live performances I could live without, and the DVD, while being interesting is reproduced in embarrassingly poor quality. I would also have liked a recent interview or documentary about the album to take a retrospective look from Elton and Bernie. It feels a bit like the whole exercise was kind of half-assed and cynical. Its a shame for such a well loved work, even if its got its flaws.
