An excellent reference book.,

This review is from: Encyclopaedia of the Viking Age (Hardcover)
This is a delightful reference work which directly addresses the needs of today's students. The individual articles are well crafted, combining accessibility with high quality analysis and bibliographical guidance. The use of anglicized and Scandinavian names is, in fact, entirely consistent. Where an anglicized name is available, it is used. If not the authur adheres to the relevant Scandinavian term. This might be irritating to the occasional purist, but it certainly makes life easier to the English language reader - towards whom the book is, after all, aimed.
It is certainly no introductory work. But for the serious student of the subject it is an invaluable reference guide, and as such I would not hesitate to recommend it.
