This review is from: The Very Hungry Frenchman [DVD] (DVD)
I was rather disappointed by this series, I felt that it tried to do too many different things and as a result did none of them very well. We were given lots of nice scenery and the usual French "terroire" story, but we have been getting that since Keith Floyd. We visited local producers but there was not much information about them, we were shown culinary legends like Paul Bocuse, but again got little real information and finally there was the cooking, but there was never enough detail to be able to repeat a recipe. The most interesting part was seeing Raymond Blanc cooking with his mother in his family home. In the end it was all rather superficial and unsatisfying. The cherry on the "gâteaux" was the woman that did the continuity voice-over, her French pronunciation was appaling, she could not even pronounce Raymond Blanc's name correctly!
