Windows 8 is Fantastic!,
This review is from: Windows 8 Pro Upgrade Edition - Upgrade from Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (PC) (DVD-ROM)
Once you get used to using Windows 8, you can really appreciate that it is a really great OS. I think owning a Windows Phone (Nokia Lumia 710) has probably helped me understand why Windows 8 is great, even before using it, why? The main reason because Windows 8 uses the live tiles originally found on Windows Phone devices. For example the Mail app has a live tile on the start screen that even when not in use the live tile continually updates how many unread emails I have, but also who they are from, allowing me to see if I think the email is important enough that I need to open the email app, where in the past you would have to have an email program that you would have open each time, to allow the send and receive process to begin, reducing productivity. The use of live tiles makes Windows 8 much more productive than previous Windows iterations as you can 'Glance and Go'. The productivity of Windows 8 increases further, once you get to know your way around the system for example the search button found in the new 'Charms' bar (move your mouse into the top/bottom right-hand corners), can be used to not only search for files or apps like you did in Windows 7, but to be able to search within an app, without having the app open in the first place e.g. firstly download the Wikipedia app from the Store and then from the 'Charms' bar click on search and type Windows 8 and then scroll down the list of app in the sidebar to Wikipedia to search for the Windows 8 article in Wikipedia. I also like how you now also able to have metro open side-by-side like you were able to snap desktop programs side-by-side in Windows 7. I am using Windows 8 on a non-touchscreen laptop and have found Windows 8 a joy to use. However, I do agree with what others are saying on particular apps, such as Windows own pdf app 'Reader' it isn't as developed as Adobe and it only allows you to view one pdf at a time, which is annoying, but as most computers come with Adobe reader, all you need to do is make that the default pdf app. To sum Windows 8 up in a sentence, it is fast, fluid, elegant, smart and easy to use.
