Buy this game!!,
This review is from: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition (PC DVD) (Computer Game)
Dark Souls is a fantastic game for anyone looking for a challenge. It is an incredibly difficult and demanding game but very rewarding and highly addictive. It is not really one for casual gamers but is a must for any RPG fan.
The prepare to die edition is a port from the original console release and so the developers recommend playing it with a gamepad. You can use a keyboard/mouse if you prefer but this could prove difficult as the game is definately made for a pad. Buying one of these is useful as it will allow you to use your existing xbox pad with the pc:

A lot of the reviews here mention a problem with a 30fps cap and low resolution but personally, I have had no issues with this. I am currently running it at 60Hz 1920x1080 so maybe it has already been patched.
The problematic areas for low frame rate on the console version (ie. blighttown) are no longer an issue and run far more smoothly on the pc. This will probably depend on how powerful your system is but it runs very well on both my desktop and far less powerful laptop with no lag at all.
The addition of the dlc to the prepare to die edition adds hours to the game and provides some backstory and new features such as pvp arenas without altering the feel of the original content or unbalancing the game.
In conclusion, playing the Prepare to Die edition on a powerful system with a gamepad will give you the best Dark Souls experience you can find and is well worth doing.

Overall, I agree that the game is worth purchasing, but there are some issues in this review..
The resolution issue is with the internal framebuffer meaning that increasing your resolution does not improve visual quality. This won't be an issue for everyone, though and has been fixed by fan-made mods, anyway.
Also 60Hz does not mean 60 FPS. The game is still capped at 30 FPS. This won't be an issue for everyone, though, especially since this is still a higher framerate than the console version!
Also, keyboard and mouse would work fine with the game if they'd bothered to optimize the controls properly, but it still works perfectly with a gamepad. The only issue is, is that if you don't already own an Xbox pad that this is an extra expense just to play this game; games like the Arkham or Assassin's Creed series control much better with a gamepad but work fine with a keyboard and mouse. This is borderline unplayable with K+M and that's just not acceptable.
Still, the game is definitely worth buying.
