Not a family favourite! - Fake five star reviews!,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Christmas Angel [DVD] (DVD)
We bought this DVD to watch on Christmas eve based on the five star reviews this film has received on Amazon but decided to vet it prior to showing to our girls. SOOOOO glad we did. While it has an amazing British cast and we did watch it to the end, the story is incredibly weak and our girls (aged 7&8) would have given up interest within the first two minutes. It's not a completely dreadful film but it's definitely not a festive family favourite. Definitely a case of buyer beware! Although we only paid £5 we feel a bit cheated to be honest. This was definitely not the film we expected. I think Amazon need to look very carefully at where their reviews come from.

In fact I am so convinced that all of the five star reviews are fake that I have posted a comment on each of them to that effect. None are from verified buyers, all first reviews. A bit annoyed to be honest. Glad we didn't wait til Christmas eve to show the kids!

Er Mark we really enjoyed the film. So did the people I recommended it too. We have seen far far worse. It was a nice change not to be watching another hollywood comic book remake. Hooray for a british film :)

Billy, I agree! Hooray for a British film and if this had been billed as the film it actually was (a fairly dark and non-seasonal film with little Christmas cheer) we would have approached it as so and maybe even lauded the talented British cast (however I do feel the fabulous cast were dealt a bit of a turkey here). However, both the film's DVD cover and the reviews posted on here suggested it was a 'seasonal family favourite' and we were looking forward to watching a Great British Christmas classic suitable for both adults and children. Not the case! All the five star reviews are of a very similar ilk (festive family favourite... Got us into the Christmas spirit... Suitable for all the family...) and none are verified buyers. I wish I had thought about this before hand. We were disappointed with the film on this basis but I'm glad you enjoyed it. It wouldn't do if we all liked the same thing. I'm a big fan of a British film, but this one was just a bit rubbish (but that is just my opinion).

Mark - very well put. I've never actually posted a film review on Amazon before but felt so cheated by this piece of rubbish that I felt compelled to do so !!
